I know here in USA, we have "Community Workshops", typically within a day program for disabled adults. They either get a few cents per item or below minimum wage to do piecework, like wrapping individual items or putting together a set of manicure tools for example. They then earn typically less than $50. a week which doesn’t effect their Social Security. They are extremely proud to be getting paid for real work and having some extra fun money! I used to be a Case Manager for disabled adults who lived independently with support services as needed.
@SubscriptionSistersАй бұрын
Ohhhhhh! That makes sense! Thank you so much for sharing this. I had no idea. Learned something new!
@RollwithAmberАй бұрын
As a physically disabled adult and with all due respect, this is an egregious take on that situation. I advocate AGAINST sheltered workshops. They boil my blood because they exploit disabled employees by paying them an insultingly low wage. There are subminimum wage laws that allow this in some states. It should be illegal because it shows major partiality. If they were paying a non-disabled person to do the exact same thing, the employer would be legally required to pay them fairly for their labor. It would be like Sydney being forced to sell her lip balm bundle boxes for $0.25. Such low wages communicate that the disabled person's labor isn't valued or respected. If they were compensated fairly, they wouldn't need SSI/SSDI/DAC benefits. In 2024, the federal SSI rate is $943 per month. Another $50 isn't going to bring them out of poverty to the point where they can put "fun money" as a line item in their budget. I'm thankful my husband provides for me because I'd be lost without him. If any disabled person is "proud" of making $50 for hours and hours of work, then they don't understand that they are being manipulated. It is another form of slave labor. I have never met a physically disabled adult that understands the situation who is "proud" of making an insultingly low wage. I have no idea if this advent calendar had anything to do with sheltered workshops or not. I would boycott if it was confirmed it did.
@SubscriptionSistersАй бұрын
Well to be honest I have no clue if this brand has anything to do with these workshops or no. Actually I didn't even know these were a thing here in the states! Wouldn't there be labor laws to protect everyone from bad wages?? Because that example does sound very unfair. :/ But I don't know anything about this either.

@@RollwithAmber I am referring to intellectually and neurological disabled. This populace would never be able to maintain a full-time above minimum wage job that might be able to get them off SSDI. This group of adults attend a day program because it isn't really safe for them to be alone 24/7. Most worked an hour at a time up to most of 3 hours during their 8 hour day program doing it in 15 - 30 minute spurts. If they earn over a certain amount they lose some benefits, so this is just extra money. A company would never employ a person at minimum wage to tissue wrap a lipstick. In a perfect world, schools and jobs would work with individuals strengths to aid them to be functionally independent....but let's be real, there will always be a community of people who could never be able to earn enough to live independently. In my experience, adults who have support services to maintain their independence, are thrilled to EARN their own money. They are proud of working and getting a paycheck. I don't feel they are being exploited by the businesses using their services. Most of them are small independent businesses who have a relative who is disabled, so they accept slow not perfect work in order to help the workers self-esteem. Again I am not discussing physical disabilities, that is an entirely different group. My clients were developmentally delayed, severe autistic, on heavy anti-psychotic meds, Down's Syndrome, etc.
@RollwithAmberАй бұрын
@@SubscriptionSisters A very old law from 1938 lets businesses apply to obtain a "14(c)certificate". When approved, it allows them to employ disabled workers for less than minimum wage. Basically it exempts the employer from laws that would otherwise grant every employees minimum wage, regardless of disability status. I didn't know it existed until I was struggling to find a competitive job and started researching it. 18 states have abolished 14(c) certificates so far and there is federal effort to get rid of it. ❤

It's cute, shades are gorgeous, a little messy when opening up, as you were pointing out, I'm certainly glad it's not more than $60 lol
@faithruntz2969Ай бұрын
The reason the boxes seem disproportionate to the items inside is the same reason why some calendars have the numbers listed in a random order. It’s to keep you guessing about what the advent has to offer and I guess I’m the only one fine with that lol

Thanks for the video, glad I got to see how much love the brand puts into the box lol How they made a smoke show on the contents, instead of creating an illusion they could’ve just put the makeup in a small pouch 😂had they done that, I wouldn’t have been so pissy about it.

I was living in the UK when this brand launched. They used to be called Makeup Revolution, and I have always been a fan. Their products are generally of good quality and always very affordable. Having said that, this box is so poorly designed! Door 2 was incredibly disappointing, not because it wasn't a good product, but because it built up an expectation and it didn't deliver.
