Why do these industrial videos always have such epic dramatic music? It's like there's a contest to see who's music can least match what's actually going on:)

I question the purpose and safety of cleaning subsea chains in this manner. If the overall concern instigating the cleaning is one of gradual decay, caused by the saline environment, wouldn't a pressure washer risk destroying a severely weakened link in the chain? If something like this is deployed in real life, how often should a customer expect catastrophic chain breakages _during_ the cleaning process? In reality, does the buildup on these chains actually cause accelerated decay, or does it actually inhibit decay and protect the chain?

Why does it need a ROV? Why does it need a cable when it has the chain itself? Why not attach it to the chain above water and then let it climb down the chain and then climb back up?

The next random suggested video is a masonry video about brick walls, and the old way to build them versus the newer way. I won't watch it, because I know I'll start to question my life, and what I'm doing with it. It's best to stop before things get out of hand. If I'm here at 3:45AM, then I think it's time to stop.

Not bad but could be better. Get rid of the winch hook's and use a Toothed wheel with teeth distanced around to centre in the chain links then place the device at the top of the chain and let it work its way down till it gets to the bottom then use a floatation device to let it float back to the surface. This would eliminate the need of the ROV

Although under tension, most of the time the chains are not exactly straight but slightly curved. However, with a typical length of say, 2 kilometers, the curvature over the length of the cleaning tool is hardly noticable.

doesn't explain how long that cable is--won't the ROV have to move the cable hook up the chain after the cleaner gets to the end of the cable? so would the cleaner slide back down the chain while the cable is being re-positioned? what holds the cleaner in place while moving the cable up the chain?

Just some of its many design flaws, it requiring an rov to move and handle it under the sea, why not attach at the surface!! clamp it on let it slide down the chain and clean it, have it on a winch haul it back up when it hits bottom! meh

Why not use a 4-6 toothed sprocket inside to prowl the length of the chain, you could start lower and work up the entire chain with the same equiptment, and it's about the same weight seeing as you need the cable motor to run the sprocket, unless a sprocket could run off a smaller motor, long fingers on a possibly 10-15 degree side motion sprocket could use the chain for locomotion with the sideways tolerance for just incase it hits top dead center of a link it'll bounce off the side and then when it's on the side, still trying to move, the path of least resistance is the center of the chain. Even better with two sprockets on one gear train, possibly with a differential and center bearing where the cleaning head could twist with the chain ahead and the drive could twist with its own direction for real life twists, the sprockets would also help align the cleaner as it would always twist with the chain itself because it uses the holes to move

Why do you need to clean them. ❓that stuff will all fall off when it’s winched up. The chain probably costs less than this tool. Hook it on at top out of the water and let gravity take it down. No rov needed. Winch it back up when done. Drop it down a few inches a minute. Idea 2, attach it at top and use it when bringing up the chain. Clean as you go.
