Subtracting Positive and Negative Numbers | The Matrix and Batman | PBSMathClub

Math Club parodies the Matrix and Batman to explore the concept that subtraction is merely addition by adding the opposite.

Addition and subtraction are two sides of the same coin and can be used to explain lots of things: elections, good and bad feelings, even retelling the plot of the Dark Knight. When the Matrix asks you to add long strings of positive and negative numbers for homework, we explain a neat little trick to help you out.

I'm in teacher school. This is a great a idea: incorporating pop culture references to teach academic ideas. Great execution as well: identifiable scenes, dialogue, even the lighting, set, and costume added to the effect. excellent work.

Subtraction isn't associative 3-2-1= 0 or 2? (3-2)-1 ≠ 3-(2-1) 0 ≠ 2 Addition is associative! (3+ -2)+ -1 = 3 +(-2+ -1) 0 = 0 Never do 3-2-1 on a test! Do (3)+(-2)+(-1) Now add in any order you'll always get it right!
