Suburban Gas Tank Replacement

The 99 Chevy Suburban gets a new gas tank.

You shocked me dude! Using a vacuum could have resulted in an explosion. Gasoline fumes are easily ignited by even a tiny electrical spark, so if the motor on the vacuum cleaner had brushes, it could have been catastrophic. I am very happy that it worked for you, but that was a dangerous thing to try. I am sorry if this sounds like I am admonishing your inventiveness, but it is definitely a dangerous thing to try unless you KNOW FOR SURE your vacuum cleaner has a brushless and contactless motor certified for flammables.

OMFG YES. YES. My neighbors autistic kid burned down his garage and the RV parked ne T to it doing just that. Three years later the same kid broke into a vacant house to steal copper pipe. He cut into a propane line and blew the entire house up and got killed. But yeah, that's insane mixing gasoline and vacuum cleaners.

You do understand that if gas got into the vacuum cleaner you could cause a massive fire

Shane Dahl Yes but there was really no way for any liquid gas to get into the vacuum cleaner. I only used the vacuum to get the flow started.

Liquid gas isn't the problem. In fact liquid gas doesn't burn. It is the fuel vapors that are dangerous.

I'm the original owner of my Tahoe. It came with the quick disconnects on the fuel lines coming from the fuel pump. Great video though thx for the help.

holy shit!!! lol do u have any idea how lucky u r there werent enough fumes to turn the vacuum into a flame thrower!?!???? lol u absolutely NEVER vacuum up gas with a shop van ppl please do not EVER try that lmao jesus kid ur lucky u still have a truck sittin there lol the brushes on those shop vac motors can throw some serious sparks also guys u dont have have to disconnect ur battery all u do is unplug the sending using as ur dropping the tank, sometimes u can get em all the way to the ground but alot of times there isnt enough slack in the harness so it can b a pain in the ass. u normally just cut the hoses off with a razor, jus slit them lenthwise where theyre attatched to the metal n peel it off usually with a flathead cuz the rust pretty much glued to the metal n rust after all those years u do have to man handle it a little btw all tanks have connectors kind of like that style, some require special release tools but they arent usually bolted. also man the next time u have to cut that much straight line use a sawzall itll go faster n save u a lot of money on wheels, also also lol its alot easier u dont have to balance the wheel or worry about it catchin n na u dont have to worry about priming the pump it automatically does that when u put gas in the tank duuude take a hammer to all that rust ASAP its literally cancer eatin ur truck away till u stop it, i will say either have diff fluid n a good diff cover n rear handy or b handy with jb weld because the rust will eat clean thru all that jb weld really does work i beat all the rust off my k3500 n got n axle housing n oil pan leak n somehow...lol got them both fixed simply by gettin the leakin areas ocd clean n jb weld, i also used somethin like 320 or 400 grit sandpaper to help the jb stick

No Comment An open container will not explode because it cannot build any pressure. At worse some fire could come out of the opening.

nitroevaderbx if you say so. The equation is much more complex than you are aware of. The rate of expansion for a ideal explosion mixture in the tank creates pressure quicker than the opening can vent. Granted it would likely not blow shrapnel across the yard , but who knows and why risk it? At minimum route exhaust gas or even the less ideal fill it with water.
