Man I miss this truck. Had a 95 gmc 2500 back in highschool as my first ride. Had some knobby tires and threw a mattress in the back for after parties and roadies. Good times. You’re making me wanna get my hands on one again! Love what you’ve done with yours, that thing is one mean off-roading machine!

Lately I have been trying to plan a future build, I have considered a suburban because I wouldn't mind using it for overland/road tripping type use with my wife and two dogs. But I really want something I can go wheeling with; your truck is exactly what I had in mind, basically hits two birds with one stone. Lift and tires isn't too radical but still looks pretty capable, the sas and suspension looks awesome. Over all super sweet build man.
@FortuneOffRoad4 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude! This has been a great truck so far. For the same reasons you listed, plus to have a light duty tow rig and cheaper price compared to the truck variant, this is a nice option. We have a sleeping platform in the back that folds out so we can camp in comfort. It's got me hooked on rockcrawling again so we are now building a samurai to team up with the burb! Good luck on your build!

What front springs are you using? We’re planning a similar build. Yours turned out great.

Lookin to put a Dana 60 under the same rig but it’s a ball joint not a kingpin thoughts? Suggestions? Out of a 2002 F250 I believe, I don’t plan on any hardcore wheelin.
@FortuneOffRoad4 жыл бұрын
I think ball joint axles are the future since there are only so many kingpins out there. From what I understand, 2005 is where improvements were made. If you Google the axle you should be able to find good data. Should be fine! Off road design has a great SAS page if you want more info. 🤙🏻

Which "Detroit Locker(s)" do you have. Apparently some other companies have no been using "Detroit Locker" and so there is some confusion (by me) as to which is which. I was looking to add the "Torsen" design locker(s) to my '96 K2500 but don't know which is best and if it is OK to have an auto-locking front Locker if I drive on the street in the rain. I would appreciate any advice. Thank you for this great video!
@FortuneOffRoad4 жыл бұрын
I have Eaton full Detroit lockers. They are great off road but the front might be too much for you if you drive in bad conditions on-road. A selectable might be a better option. 🤙🏻

Nice rig Broseph! I love lifted Suburbans. I have a 2011 on a 7” lift and 35s. What size tires are those? Do you know how much weight the solid axle swap added? It’s a catch twenty two trying to build them strong but cut the weight down for good wheeling.
@FortuneOffRoad4 жыл бұрын
These are 37x12.50r17. Not sure how much the Dana 60 added, but the rear has a 14 bolt now too. I'm sure its an ungodly amount!
@jeromeburrasca67104 жыл бұрын
Fortune Off-Road Wow! Do you get stuck in mud and sand a lot? How about going up steep inclines? I removed the rear seats, running boards and lightened up the exhaust system. All the off-road bumpers I’ve looked at are really freakin heavy. Do you use the winch often? They make racing heavy duty CV axles now. I’m not sure which way I’m going to go yet, those or an axle swap. The nice thing about the CVs is you can still use off-road coil overs up front. My truck uses coils not leaf springs. I had to NorCal mod my front fenders to fit the 35 x12.50s on, mines a different generation Suburban than yours. It can run on $2.30 a gallon E85 Flex Fuel and has a 6speed transmission with a aluminum engine. I want to weigh it on a scale.

Could you do a video of how you did the np241 swap in it i dont want to have the buttons in there once im done swapping i was tolled the front diff needs to be rewired?
@FortuneOffRoad3 жыл бұрын
I don't have that truck anymore. The swap is very simple though. Both transfer cases use the same wires and plugs. You'll have to cut a hole in the floor for the shifter, but you can trace the shape out of a donor vehicle at pick n pull. It makes the cut a lot easier. That's what I did. The buttons on the dash will still be there, but they don't do anything.
