On the topic of saving the wife or the baby during pregnancy, it's a very difficult topic. I understand Cynthia's point but I lean more towards the guys' answers. Yes, the wife carried the baby for 9 months and went through a lot during. But when it becomes a life-or-death situation, I can't imagine a husband being ready to choose to lose his wife/best friend when they can save them. They can always try for a child again in the future or lean towards adoption. But once your wife is gone, won't it kill you inside? I know I'd be lost without my partner if I didn't have him anymore - he's my bestest friend. My grandfather was lost and when my grandmother passed away, and it was heartbreaking to witness that. Now if the situation was different, say that my husband and (already born) child got into a serious accident, and I had to pick one to save, I'd probably have a harder time choosing.

The whole “kidnapping to get married” happens in Hmong culture. Idk if there are other cultures that do this but it happens in Laos and even in America. Guys would forcibly drag women alone or with their cousins and brothers back to their homes and force the girl to get married to them.
