I absolutely love your realistic approach and explanation for potential patient visual improvement post stroke. The Nero-Ophthalmologist I saw gave me the opinion "I probably won't improve" but let's wait for 6 months. I'm a 58 year old who had a stroke in August 2021. My state requires 140 degree Binocular Peripheral Visual Field. I was not cleared to drive and was told I could get a Goldman test to quantify my vision but "I most likely would not pass. However I'm not sensing significant field loss. I asked about therapy but didn't get any options. Before I take that test that would "officially" prevent me from driving I am seeking some therapy options to explore. I'm very excited to contact you with my information because my attitude is there must be something I can do to push some level of improvement. Great videos and thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience; it really helps those of us going through these life changes.....

Hi Alex the great news is that we do not work with or need medication for this. Meds will have to be discussed with a different practitioner. More good news is that we have helped a lot of stroke patients who had very little options for vision restoration. As much as I would love to help I really cannot advise on a case on KZbin. My poor dad just woke up from 3 bypass and mitral valve surgery with speech and vision problems. Unfortunately the doctors took convincing that he needed an mri for a possible stroke. The poor guy went 5 days without anyone knowing he couldn’t see or realizing he had a stroke because he was so disoriented and struggled to talk that they just assumed he was struggling with coming off the anesthesia. I’m looking into getting him into treatment asap for the stroke. He said he sees double and has some black spots and his eyes shake a little bit. Does anyone know if their is a period after the stroke where symptoms may become less. I’m just praying to god it calms a little bit for him to help with being so disoriented. Anything anyone has to say we be very comforting to me and my family.

Hi there. Sorry to hear about your dad. We have had other patients go through the same nightmare post cardiac surgery. Unfortunately there is no way to know the outcome of waiting and how long to wait. So usually in strokes and vision, the faster it is treated the better due to the need to save as much neurons as possible. The first 6 months is usually marked as a critical intervention period if possible although we have helped many beyond that point but the closer to the stroke the better. Ultimately to gain further clarity we recommend an consultation with Dr Steinhauer.

Do you have any videos for peripheral video training? After my mild stroke, my eyes vision they ruled okay working direct vision is fine. But in peripheral vision it seems that I am not having detail or focus in both eyeballs the right top corner seems to be out of focus or not able to capture detail cause seeing two fingers in left top peripheral, bottom left, and bottom right. I only had a stroke about two months ago and seems my vision has improved, and my memory and some of my physical and occupation therapy I had already been told that I am completer, just working with speech therapy, vision doctor and neurosurgeon keeping an eye on my stroke.

HI Jb. No we do not. It is generally a pain in the neck and doesn't allow us to actually do what people want us to do which is treat the underlying problem and actually help with gain better eyesight. They want you to wear prisms or get surgery instead. smh. You may call your insurance and ask if they will reimburse your expense, but honestly don't hold your breath cos they...well you know what! I can however give you a letter of medical necessity to give to your insurance to see if that helps sway things in your direction.

There are many factors involved here. Where did the stroke occur in the brain? How serious was the stroke? Are other systems affected? I wish this were a simple answer but it is not.
