These Duramax generators have a serious design flaw. The selector switch is used to run propane or motor Gasoline can be defective. What I did for a friend of mine, was to bypass the propane and bypass the motor gasoline. One thing to remember is, if you were going to run the generator on propane, the selector switch must be over to the propane position. There are wires connected to the switch, and the switch needs to be activated. The NGK spark plug should be gapped at 30 mills. I think the selector switch works, and then it stops, and then it starts working again. Hence bypassing it is an easy thing to do and eliminates the switch issue.

I would not have thought of a spark plug but I hope you finally got it fixed. I've followed this for I think about 5 or 6 videos and ask that you post another in a month or so to see if it is fixed. I'm really curious to know.

yeah, I am still not satisfied the cause has been discovered. I have it runnning on gasoline right now. It is running fine with gasoline. I am tryin to burn it out. I am thinking I need to inspect the carborator closely, maybe there a foriegn object in front of the venturi that gets in the way and then sometimes it moves clear.

From a review on Amazon- “to use propane you have to change the spark plug to NGK BPR6ES, per tech support. It’s a known issue and will not run on propane with the factory installed plug.” Hope this helps

wow, you think the manual or tech support would mention that. I eventually did change to an NGK and it has been working fine. No one told me to do it, just a process of deduction and shot gunning, basically.

Do you feel the bypass was necessary after swapping out spark plugs?

I think it has to do with the propane not being pressurized yet. If you let the propane stay open for a minute or two before starting, it seems to fire right up!
