Foreshadowing Tom's selection as CEO: Aleksander Skarsgaard (Lukas) mentioned in the Succession podcast - that in the episode right before, at the funeral - when Lukas asks where Tom is , Shiv mentions he's at the office and Lukas' eyes glaze over in thought for a second. Basically, he played it as Lukas thinking that despite his own father-in-law's funeral - after all the election backlash - Tom is working in the office. For someone like Lukas who shares Logan's mindset - this is a big bonus. To him it shows not only can Tom be controlled - but he is also hard-working and willing to put in the dirty work if needed.Further more, Lukas making comments about wanting to sleep with Shiv are also a test - essentially testing Tom's emotional control.

Shiv saw Kendall in her father‘s chair and the arrogance that came with it And realised how much she would hate seeing her brother as CEO. It really had nothing to do with Tom being CEO. Greig was kept by Tom as an absolute powerplay. It is classic bullying by Tom whereby he pretends to Greig that he saved his life, but will continue to bully the crap out of him

I agree, Shiv changed her mind after seeing Kendall put his feet at her father‘s desk but I also think she didn‘t wanna to be a single mom with an unemployed ex-husband (all thought she would get a tonne of money). She was always jealous of Kendal and couldn’t be happy for him but she also didn’t wanna end up alone.

Ya since season 1 shiv on episode 2 has said that Kendall isn’t fit for ceo. And this is a feeling that went back to her childhood, where she felt she’s always sidelined by Logan. AND See Kendall being a dick to Roman when Roman said no to the deal. You can see how disgusted shiv is. The same way Kendall put his feet on dads table acting like a dick. And I think that’s a pattern of Kendall that shiv probably very familiar with. Once he’s get arrogant he started becoming selfish. Almost like an addict thing where he goes manic when’s he’s on a manic phase. Shiv was reminded how much she hated that side of Kendall, and all of a sudden Tom taking over and potential their kids becoming heir doesn’t seem that bad of an idea
@ItsMe_Sam9 ай бұрын
The show was very clever in that it followed the story through the eyes of Kendall, Shiv and Roman - and in doing so gave the impression that they were credible to some degree as successors. But Logan always knew they weren’t serious people. In fact the whole industry knew. This is why it became Logan’s essential goal to sell Waystar for the best of the company. Even after his death, Logan won. They were not serious people and none of the 3 kids would have been successful in running the company. Roman was the only one to truly realise this and in bittersweet way, became free. Shiv on the other hand knew that she’d have more control being the wife of the CEO than being the sister of the CEO. Power dynamics with Tom are totally reversed. Kendall is the only one that will be trapped in a sense of loss forever. There was no better ending for this show that did honour to the soul of the story. This was inevitable yet we didn’t see it unfold in this way. That is genius storytelling right there.

I agree fully that Tom is underestimated, which is why he was able to climb to the top. Shiv, looking back - always chose Tom over Kendall (season 1, she pitched Tom over Ken, season 2 she basically decided for Ken to go to prison over Tom), in my opinion Tom was spot on calling out that Shiv is terrified of failure so she will do anything to keep the marriage afloat (especially now that she is pregnant). She does not want to end up as her mother (tho I d argue she still will). Either way tho I do agree she probs still chose better as while Tom is a snake too, he loves her, AND they have a baby so he does not have a real reason to betray her, unlike Ken. But her being basically the same person she was since season 1 proves why Tom won, coz all the kids did not change...they are all the same emotionally stunned kids with unsolved trauma and issues, as they were in episode 1. Which is what makes this show so repetitive, but also so tragic and so real - coz yes, it feesl like real people who are just unable to process their trauma and move forward - just adults imprisoned in their past. And e all know people like that, who make the same mistakes over and over again coz of unresolved trauma.

Shiv had a reaction to Ken putting his feet up on Logan’s desk, which tipped her over the edge. I didn’t care much for Shiv. However, she was right: Ken would not have been good at it, plain and simple. The clues were there for the rest of us all the way back in Season 2, the “Vaulter” episode. When Logan needed an analysis of Vaulter, Ken allowed himself to be buried in paper for 36 hours to crunch numbers; Roman took some staffers out, got them drunk and let them vent. It was never going to work with Ken.

A really understated theme in this whole show is the bloodline thing. Earlier in the show, Logan asks Tom why he hasn't got Shiv pregnant yet and if he's shooting blanks, and the shot moves from Tom to Kendall, foreshadowing the reveal in the finale that Kendall's kids aren't his (the implication being that he's infertile). Logan seems focused on creating another biological heir, possibly why he shows no interest in Kendall's kids. Connor and Willa will probably never have children. Roman won't, for obvious reasons. Kendall can't. Tom, who was once "fathoms beneath" Shiv, is now the one with the power, and she is relegated to being the one to create an heir. There are also many references to Shiv's likelihood of being a bad mother like Caroline, and her and Tom's kid will probably grow up as messed up as the rest of the Roys. Some fans also think the "Greg?" on the piece of paper Logan left was him considering Greg as the only one capable of keeping the company in the bloodline, since Greg will probably eventually have kids and Logan assumed none of his four would.
@LaCheeserie9 ай бұрын
I really don’t see Tom as the one with power. Yes he has power, but he answers to Matsson. It will be a short leash. Shiv still has power, and the kids could go on to create something like but likely won’t because of the effort needed. They wanted turnkey with Waystar.

TBH kendall was a good person who did not deserved that ending. Shiv was an evil good for nothing daddy's girl. Even if she had became CEO she would've fucked that up, swedish guy knew that, just imagine how coward loser you have to be to backstab your brother just because you can't see a simle on his face. All that theory that she saw his foot on the office table and she knew he is not fit is just bullshit, Shiv was never that thoughtful towards anyone, not to her father, tom, her brothers let alone for a company that she was never part of. Truth is she saw how kendall was happy and she couldn't digest that, she was exactly as evil as Logan if not more. I mean Logan's selfishness can be understood as he made the company and he didn't wanted to hand it over but i think he also knew kendall was the right choice, I think he underlined his name after kendal showed him his killer instinct.

There’s two moments where I think Shiv decides she can’t stomach Kendall as CEO. Firstly when he sits in Logan’s chair with his legs up on the desk. Secondly, after Roman votes in favour of Kendall and he says “that’s fucking right”, the way the camera cuts to Shiv shows that she might deviate from what was planned. I do think part of Shiv’s decision is also her being jealous because as much as she has genuine and legitimate reasons to vote against Kendall, she brings up a lot of reasons that were irrelevant but that justifies her not voting in his favour such as the fact that he killed someone.

Matsson has no loyalty to the Roys so Tom is the obvious choice. Tom knows the company and actually knows how to run shit, ATN is a success under him. You missed the point of Shiv's mind change. She didn’t vote yes because Tom would become the CEO, she voted yes in spite of it. Her mind changed mostly because how annoying Kendell gets when he thinks he is being the MAN! That's the same reason Roman's mind was changed too. Even if they would get nothing they would still vote against him by seeing how Kendell is undeservingly acting like he is worthy!
@vickster50019 ай бұрын
Just finished. Such a great finale and no, there weren't alternative endings. Just the one that Jesse Armstrong had planned. Ultimately for Shiv I think it comes down to the line she says in that last scene with kendall - "I love you but I can't stomach you." Sure, by doing it she gives Tom some status which maybe might make him think better of her, but I think she just could see how unbearably annoying Kendall would be on top and couldn't crown him. The scene that makes me the most sad/angry is Roman and Kendall in the office. All through the show we've seen Kendall protect and defend his brother from their dad's abuse, abuse which Roman now seems to need to some extent to function and in that moment when he needs Roman to re-focus, he gives him the abuse. Sure Roman is asking for it, but I hated seeing Kendall step in to his dad's shoes to do that. Plus I love that right at the end they drop a huge bit of info about Logan not viewing Kendall's kids as legitimate as one is adopted and the other via a donor (half Rava half filing cabinet guy), so if Kendall was unable to have kids, then that adds a whole other layer to how his father sees him and earlier scenes such as in boar on the floor. Only a show like this can save such rich material for the end! Oh and to be fair to Greg, he didn't know Tom had been offered top job when he told Kendall is wasn't going to be Shiv. Maybe he'd have kept quiet if he'd known, or maybe he'd have done the exact same playing of both sides! Oh and I was lucky enough to watch this finale live in london (starting at 2 a.m.) in a cinema with the creator and some of the writers. The biggest audience response - it was when Greg hit Tom!

Not many reactors have watched it, and it's one of the greatest TV shows of all time, I have it third on my ranking, really underrated. Rami Malek performance is one of the best in TV show history, and his character is one of the best, most complex, and badass characters. But I understand the show is longer, so the ideal show to watch next would be The Bear. Not only because now that BCS and Succession are over, The Bear is currently the best TV show, the episodes are shorter, and S3 is coming in June, it would be perfect for you guys to catch up for the new season.

@@vighneshpillai7996 Thanks, bro. I am a filmmaker and screenwriter student, so that's where my good taste comes from. I like high-quality shows with really good writing, directing, acting, cinematography, etc. The Leftovers deserves more attention; it is a masterpiece, and it's sad that even the academy didn't even acknowledge it. That's how underrated it is. About what I recommend you to watch first it depends. Atlanta and Ted Lasso are masterpieces, but both are very different. For me, Atlanta is slightly better, but both are incredible. Ted Lasso is a more goofy and "feel-good" type of show, even though it has really hard drama at times, and the character arcs are incredible. It's also super funny; acting wise, it's hard; maybe Ted Lasso is slightly better; cinematography easily goes to Atlanta; and writing and storytelling are both just as good, so I don't know; there is no wrong answer; both are incredible shows.

Another thing guys; Shiv is now pregnant with child she doesn't want, in a loveless marriage that is now quite literally transactional with a reversed power dynamic she hypocritically can not stand. Who does that remind you? Her mother. Everything she hated and now ironically is exactly like her.

So essentially - Shiv got mom'ed - she's her mom in this situation.

During 2nd season i got this feeling that shiv is going to be the deciding factor in the end because in hinduism there is a god by the name shiva who is also known as the destroyer. his job is to destroy the whole universe at the end of kali yuga so that the new universe can be created and the circle of time starts again. I thought this cant be a coincidence surely, there must be something and When i saw how the final episode unfolded, i was both happy for predicting it but at the same time screaming at my screen to stop shiv.

What Roman said sums it up since day one, "We're bulls!t. It's not going to be us". 😂Greatness in business or whatever doesn't automatically get inherited to your children. If you don't have it you don't have it. It could be a good thing because you don't have to be as awful or cold as Logan to succeed in life in other things.

Didnt Roman already know about Kendalls "accident" with the waiter???? Roman and Shiv were both hugging Kendall when he first told them in season 2. why would Roman be shocked by the that news in this episode????
@DontTakeThisSeriously6164 ай бұрын
Did you watch the show? Kendall told them he killed him in the s3 finale. Now in the s4 finale, to try and save face, Ken told them he made the waiter thing up. That's what Roman is shocked about.

So true... They really shouldn't have started the reactions if they weren't planning on being consistent. It was a shitshow from the beginning. The last 3 episodes were dropped just to finish the series at once. The quality of these episodes was soo bad. They didn't even have anything interesting to say. They pretty much harped on the same point from 3rd season onwords. Hope they don't touch any other quality shows.

I think shiv lost because she will never have power over Tom again. She will have to be a doting wife the rest of her life because she needs Tom and Tom doesn’t need her, that’s why at the end they show Tom putting his hand out and waiting for Shiv to hold it while she begrudgingly agreed and joined hands.

Tom was my favorite character from the very beginning purely because he was funny and from Minnesota. Honestly, mainly because he was from Minnesota. Coincidentally Shiv was one of my least favorite characters because of the way she treated him throughout the series. If it had to be one of the three kids, I wanted it to be Kendall.

No, I don't think Tom got stronger. But Tom knows how to play the game. He knows he is a pawn, but not just any pawn. He made a deal with the King (Lukas) to be his proxy because of nationalist Merkel, and Tom got the position because Tom is the opposite of Shiv. Tom extends his hand knowing Shiv would take it because at the very least Tom has power and he knows Shiv would not reject that. Shiv put her hand in his because she is ok (for now) with the share of power of being the wife of the King's special pawn, and because Tom is the father of her child.

I had a different reaction to the final episode of Succession than you guys did. I felt sorry for Kendal. No, he wasn't perfect. He was an alcoholic, a drug addict and he was way too dependent on taking over the company. When he could have just taken his money and done his own thing. I never liked Roman. He was always too disrespectful, insulting and offensive. And the only thing keeping him from getting rightfully beaten to a pulp was his father's money and power. The Siobhan character was the one I was most disappointed in. She started out the most impressive. Doing her own thing and being independent. But then she got back into the company and turned into the most awful person. Jaby kept saying he was trying to figure out why she changed her mind in the boardroom. I think it was just because she was an awful person who couldn't help but stab her brother in the back one more time. To the benefit of no one --- except maybe her husband Tom. I don't think she was even thinking about Tom when she made that decision. She just wanted to screw her brother over one more time. Not to mention, her husband Tom married her because he loved her. And she told him she wanted an open marriage. Tom didn't really want that. But he agreed because he loved her. She made the rules. They both followed the rules. But she decides all of a sudden she doesn't like it anymore. So instead of just offering that they mutually agree to stop having an open marriage, she turns on Tom out of childish jealousy. In my opinion, she was the worst of a family of awful people.

Finally someone said it, Shiv's character was the worst. She was so jealous of kendal that she couldn't take it and ruined the deal. The way she was trying to rub on kendall's face after she thought she will be the American CEO shows how pathetic and incompetent she was. Kendall was the only sibling who didn't try to hurt his siblings he just wanted to become like his father. I am happy of Tom though.
@MarcelPilie9 ай бұрын
@@ankitvarma1652 Thank you for agreeing. Shiv actually said to Kendal in the final episode, "I hate you." Why? What did Kendal ever do to her? That was her brother. Because of the father, they were all terrible people. But in my view, Kendal had the best character. Roman was a sniffling little creep. And Siobhan was nothing but a hateful back stabber. Who stabbed Kendal in the back for no other reason other than she was just a terrible person.
@MarcelPilie9 ай бұрын
I'm a logical person. And according to what I could see, there was no logic to Siobhan's decision to stab Kendal in the back. It was all based on hate and spite. Siobhan's decision to stab Kendal in the back was of no benefit to her. And was actually a consequence to her. Shiv would have been better off with Kendal as CEO of the family company than the Scandinavian guy. Who had no respect for Shiv. Had already stabbed her in the back. Pulled the rug out from under her. And no concern for her or her brothers. Kendal --- for all his faults --- was the only one who cared about his siblings. He would taken care of them, if he had become CEO. Roman didn't care about anybody but himself. And Siobhan was so filled with hate and spite, she couldn't see straight. I don't know why Shiv hated Kendal. I don't remember anything portrayed in the show that Kendal did to her, that would make her hate him so much. All I can think of, is he reminded her too much of her father. So she stabs her brother in the back because she hated her father? If anything, Kendal was just as much a victim of their father, as Shiv was. If not more.
@ankitvarma16529 ай бұрын
@@MarcelPilie When she said you can't be CEO because you killed someone was the exact time I knew she had no logical reasoning, she was jealous because she was not as competent as kendall.
