@@arafat9828 Yeah I actually couldn't pin point it.. but for some reason I was unsure about the show within the first few episodes. Was still interested enough to watch.. but if that was all I watched before stopping for a bit, I wouldn't think much about going back to it. But man am I glad I continued, bc it turned out to be the best show on television right now. Not to say the first couple episodes were bad or anything. But idk. Some of the acting and writing kinda threw me off a little bit I guess. But once you get into it.. you won't be sorry. Get to watching people

I had to watch the first couple of episodes twice before I got into it, but yeah those episodes are definitely necessary to build their world. Because of the marketing, I thought it was going to be pure business drama. I absolutely love the business shit, but the humor in the show is what makes it fucking magical. I don’t know if it was as funny in the pilot as it eventually becomes (it’s been a long time since I’ve done a rewatch tho so I could be wrong). By episode 3 I was super intrigued and then episode 4 I was 1000% hooked. I also didn’t know that Jesse Armstrong who co-created Peep Show (which is one of the funniest shows ever) created this until my second attempt watching through it. I also had to try really hard to sell this show to my friends as a good show because they thought it was going to be purely a pretentious boring drama. The thing that ended up working were sending them Cousin Greg compilations lmao

Despite Roman being the obvious choice for most hate-able character, I find him to be one of the most authentic. His brand of awfulness is, for the most part, gluttonous and hedonistic uses of his power for pleasure, rather than malicious and abusive treatment of others (with obvious exceptions - never forget the baseball kid 😔). This produces a character that looks more awful than the others, but who is more true to themselves, and more honest about their own privilege, and who ultimately hurts less people.
@vanillasteamerenthusiast

yeah!! you put it into words for me. i think they all suck, i think roman is so compelling because he doesn't even TRY to hide his feelings or intentions for the most part. the others, minus connor, who's got his own stuff going on, really try hard to, even if they really suck at doing it. roman knows he cant compete on that level, so he just doesn't.

I wish you had talked about Shiv a little more because I think she is one of the most complex characters on the show, alongside Kendall. We start out thinking of her as the "likeable" member of the family, the one with more liberal, progressive politics, the competent, capable woman, who is smarter than all of her brothers put together, but who is seemingly underestimated and overlooked by her father. But as the show goes on, she becomes increasingly unlikeable as you realise that her progressive politics are really only skin deep, and that underneath she is just as self-serving and ruthless - if not MORE ruthless - than any of them. Whats more, she is a compulsive liar and manipulator who is constantly gaslighting and belittling Tom, because she doesn't want a partner, she wants someone to boss around. At the same time, I sort of can't help rooting for her to succeed????
@connorjoseph872

Well spoken! I agree, Shiv is definitely one of the more complex characters. She has the “killer” instinct Logan referred to (ex threatening to bring down Waystar and Tom with cruise scandal to progress her career with Gill). All that said, she is captivating to watch. I’d love to see a serious rift / power struggle between Kendall and Shiv in the power vacuum Season 2 finale left us with.

In my opinion, she's the one who, right from the get go, appeared as the most selfish out of the 4 kids (especially when it comes to her love-life). As the show went on, she started coming of as the most entitled and manipulative one. Eventhough these are adjectives that can be applied to most characters of the show. At least she stands up (at times) to her father, but never when in order to defend anyone other than herself (and Tom at the end of season2).

A big part of shivs character is that she THINKS she’s way smarter than she actually is. She definitely isn’t smarter than her brothers. Every time she’s given a chance to prove herself she goes in with way too much confidence and ruins it. I think Kendall is the smartest of the siblings

I think it comes down to the general preference of the medium. If you like movies you watch a lot of movies and if you watch a lot of it you watch a lot of crap also. As he's not into TV shows he only watches them when he's really intrigued and there's a higher probability of liking it. While a person that watches a lot of TV can tell you that they also watch lots of crap sometimes.

The thing that surprises me the most about this show is the writing. IT'S SO GOOD! The dialogs, character building, plot twists. i mean it did win a golden globe and nine emmys so i do not really think its underrated in the film world, just for viewers since hbo is criminally underrated even though out of all of the streaming networks it produces the best quality of shows, i.e euphoria, succession, game of thrones, even the gossip girl reboot i feel if netflix tried for it it would sick and since it was hbo its really decent.

The reason why I, and many others, don’t like succession is because the business storylines are really stupid. ok kieran culkins role as roman was PHENOMENAL!!!! the absolute personality he was able to develop despite not being the main main character of the show is insane. his physicality, mannerisms, sneaky lines and innuendos are really waht build his character. the way he acts is literally crazy i can’t help but think he’s one of the best on the show. honestly it’s hard to rank any of them they’re all so good

I think people mistankely portray Roman as the most rebelious, just because he has a filthy mouth. In fact, he's te most obedient little boy up until the last episode of the third season. He just does everything daddy says. Kendall is the actuall rebel here.

I think more than being relatable, the characters in this show can be understood. You see a character and might not necessarily think that you can relate to them, but you can believe the situation they've been put in. I think to be able to do that is immense. Sidenote: Jeremy Strong is so versatile, his best performance is no doubt in this show, but from his other works all I can say is... I can not wait to see more of him!

Not just the Murdoch family. Shiv is based on Shari Redstone, who fell out with her father at CBS over corporate governence. The Kendall car death plotline is based on the Chappaquiddick incident involving the Kennedy family. Logan is definietly inspired by Rupert Murdoch - but the writers are more interested in power relationships and have drawn inspiration from other powerful and wealthy families.

“You gotta be a killer and you’re not” - Logan to Kendall right before the season 2 finale. The writing and everything about this show is exquisite. I held off watching it thinking it’s “a show about rich white people.” That still holds up but it’s so much more than that in its critiques of power and family dynamics. Truly a contemporary Game of Thrones
