I feel like it also had to do with Tom telling Shiv it was going to be him that played a role in her switching her vote, like she weighed her options before realizing that it'd be more advantageous to be married to the CEO than it would be being siblings to the CEO. This is also adding what I like to think is her realizing that Kendall is as much worthy to the throne as she is, which is not at all

The impression is that Greg really did not know. After speaking with Matsson, Tom told Greg that he thought that they were going to be OK. Tom did not say how he knew this and Greg did not ask.

Did Matsson ever really offer Shiv the CEO position? As I recall, didn't Matsson only agree to a US CEO and Shiv made the assumption that she would be the one because she made the suggestion to assist in the deal.

No he didn't, but she just assumed she was gonna get it because...? Idk, she suggested the idea to him and probably thought its a "i scratch your back you scratch mine" situation. In fact in the previous episode Mattson tells her to her face that hes hesitant to make her ceo because shes pregnant (which isnt even the main reason why she doesn't deserve it anyway) and during the conversation with Mencken he never explicitly says Shiv's name when floating the idea of an american ceo. If she wasnt so dense and had pulled her head out of her own ass then she would've gotten the hint that hes playing her

Everybody, especially the men, play Shiv, which is the reason why she uses the shiv when they don't see it coming. You know the saying --- when you are a woman, you go with the best offer. Sometimes the offer may be her only offer. It is also code for keeping your options open (Tom took objection to Shiv doing this). Also, Shiv made a cartoon of her puppetering Mattson but Mattson took it like a champ, not taking it too personal. Mattson even said that he felt intimidated by Shiv to Tom as Shiv kept using her "Pick Me, Pick Me" energy and she doesn't exactly tell him what is she doing during the company. Meanwhile, Tom told Mattson about his works and also used his humility to impress Mattson even Tom willingly being the pain spinge because he's getting used of Shiv's treatment to him as she sees him as her lapdog.

He thought he needed the political connections, realized he did not, and never wanted a person who actually wanted to lead he just thought he had to pick her to get the political connections. Also, looking back at the conversations between them and Mecken in Logan's house again, Mecken and Mattson agreed that they want American CEO but they don't specifically telling the gender of the CEO and Shiv thought it's her. When people thought of American CEO, their first thought must be a male and both of Mecken and Mattson realized that Shiv is totally clueless and out of place for being there, even their conversations are deeper with politic and also but Shiv constantly making weird allegory and jokes in front of a freaking president. You can see both Mecken and Mattson are cringing together when Shiv is talking like "Girl, are you stupid? We're not talking about you!"

@@amoy5657 Nobody in the show is actually a Saint. They all are grey characters. No one is actually a good people. Everyone always have their own motive and likes to scheme other people for their personal goals. In one side, I can feel sorry for Tom for being treated like a shit by the Roys but in another side, Tom brought himself in for being a golddigger in first place. Remember, he told Greg the first thing when he met Shiv was not herself but it was her purse, so he has to pay his consequences for being a golddigger. Same with Shiv, as much as annoying she is, sometimes I feel sorry for her because throughout her entire life she's always being "The Token girl" as Logan constantly leaving her for work, her mom, Caroline doesn't care to her children, Kendall is mostly being a mysognistic and likes to leave and bully her, Roman is mostly being Kendall's yes man and also likes to bully her, Connor is a freaking airhead but ironically, he's actually acting as the surrogate father to his half siblings more than Logan but they don't respect him and sees him as a joke. However, Shiv is too arrogant and spoiled and thinking everyone should've worshipped her like a Queen but in reality, she shows how pathetic she is for being Daddy's Little Princess.

Shiv- only had the name to back her up. She was smart but not smart enough to see what was beyond what’s in front of her. Ken- smart, strategist, but just not a killer. Didn’t know how to execute. Roman- good with people but at the end of the day with him you still felt like you needed to talk to an adult in the room.

Disagree on the Shiv part to be honest as out of the three I think she's by a good margin the smartest and most down to earth of the Roy children. Her crippling fault lies in the fact she lets her feelings about how things "should" be influence her moves. She feels she should have been included in the business from the beginning and therefore shouldn't have to do the management training. In part she's right, it's almost certainly because Logan was sexist and wanted his son to take over not his daughter, that still doesn't change the fact she had little to no experience of the day to day opperations. Her father promised her CEO and so she thinks from that point on she "should" be CEO no matter what, because he promised. She torpedo'd her political career for this and therefore she can't face the fact she, just like her brothers before her, got played by Logan. Ultimately Shiv's emotional damage makes her act extremely entittled when she believes she's in the right, and that leads to her getting played. I think her actual intelligence is still leagues ahead of Roman and a fair bit ahead of Ken.

Nah, he was such a jealous man he didn't even want his kids to carry on the legacy. His legacy stays with his name, everyone is going to remember what Logan Roy accomplished. When Mattson told him that his life is "boring", Logan noted that Mattson has accomplished everything from young age. Kendall is almost close to Logan's criteria but every time there's a chance, he's always blew it up with insecurity, childish behaviour and also arrogance. Kendall is also can't take criticism and he will not let everyone to speak, he thinks he's a badaas while in fact he's talking like a kid who wants his toy so badly. Roman is good at negotiating but he mostly still act childish and being pervert and also talk dirty and the fact he's hitting up to one of Logan's top executives is just make it worse. Shiv is mostly rude, using her feelings over her logic, is a definition of talk to talk but not walk to walk and has no experience on the company. Also, she's always having Pick Me girl energy and always disagree to everyone's opinion. Connor as his eldest son doesn't involve in the company from beginning but he mostly being an airhead. In the end, Logan's kids are totally broken because of Logan's neglicence and it affects them mentally until adulthood. It also implied that Logan mostly hit Roman the most as Roman always begging for someone to hurt him so he will feel better. They are not serious people.
