I grew up with my grandmother loving succulents (her whole backyard was full of them (in Belgium even in winter they thrived), now many years later (I am 44) and living in California, Hubby and I bought a house and we were thinking of what to do with the frontyard with it being so hot and dry pretty much 9 months / year and then it dawned to me.... I want a succulent/rock garden !!!! So where my hubby works he has a lot of succulents growing and his boss allready said take as many as you want to propagate and grow... I am stoked about starting these cute little suckers (see what I did there). Love how you explain and how passionate you are :), just like my grandma used to be and how I feel looking at succulents

This was very useful vdo. Can we spray leaf proportions that haven’t yet been put in soil with metho for mealy bugs? Also i have problems with all stacked crassulas. They grow and after some time the lower portions go bald and brown n naked n look ugly. The top continues to grow or sometimes dries up too. I dnt know if i am dng something wrong. Any advice would be much appreciated. I have learnt so much from you. Heartfelt thank you.
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK2 жыл бұрын
Leaf propagation with or without roots can be sprayed with metho. It doesn't hurt them. Stacked crassula likes water but has to dry up between watering.

Hi Liz I enjoy watching your KZbin videos. I have an enquiry, where do you find your granite rocks you use as a top dressing. I’m in Western Australia and it’s been hard trying to find any rocks like you use. Bunnings don’t have much stock in any rocks.
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK2 жыл бұрын
I get it locally from a friends farm but Landscape Garden Suppliers will have crushed granite use for driveways. Maifan stone available online is also decomposed granite.

@@raquelmorris4271 You can use the cacti and succulent mix available at Bunnings. Just sieve it to get rid of the big pieces of bark and then add some RICHGRO ROCK MINERAL available at Bunnings also and you're good to go. Use whatever cheap rock dressings such as scoria or basalt rocks and Bob's your Uncle. 🥰

My leaf propagations have either lots of roots but no babies or they have babies but no roots. Only very few have both. What am I doing wrong?
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK2 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the plant. Some don't grow plants at all. The ones that grow roots will sometimes grow babies and the ones with babies but no roots might need a little helping by twisting the baby out(has to be big enough), as they sometimes have small roots that can't be seen unless removed from the mother leaf. Dry it first, them place on top of moist coco coir and wait for roots to pop out....then water regularly. Videos below might be useful. I am in England : Some of my leaves do give roots but most either dry up or go yellow and swollen and die. The ones that do produce babies are very slow to grow . There is about 5 or7 deg C variation in temperature where they are ......any ideas as to why I have so little success. I do allow them to callous and start on dry Akadama or tissue , I don't spray with water until roots form .If there is a little plant I put on succulent soil/compost and spot water on the root about half a ml each day. Help please

Liz, anong season mas madali mag propagate sa Australia, spring or fall?
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK2 жыл бұрын
Depende po sa tanim. Karamihan po sa kanila ay temperature driven instead of the season. Basta hindi lang po masyadong mainit, anytime pwede mag propagate. Mga ibang tanim, kahit winter, grow pa rin sila kapag indoors at mainit.

Have you ever tried water propagation? I saw this video today ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6GlY36Lh86oiKs ) which was interesting; and before I started learning anything about succulents, I found rooting sedum from my garden was very easy by just popping stalk cuttings in water for a while. Wondering if you’ve ever tried it and what your experience was?
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK2 жыл бұрын
I find that it all depend on specific plants. Some will do well on water props and some will root up quick but the minute they're planted in the soil....they seem to stop growing and new soil root starts to form. I find it's best to dry the succulents and plant in soil. They seem to grow fast for me.
