This is one of the large columnar cactus from South America, which can grow well over twenty feet. It produces white flowers which generally opens at night time. It is seen here growing on the boardwalk of Malaga, in the city of southern Spain. Some of us still believe that name Trichocereus is a better name for these plants.
You may grow these cacti from seeds in a communal pot, or small cuttings. You must be prepared for giving them a lot of room, as they mature..

Yes, we have plenty of Stetsonia, but most of them are less than four feet tall. So, I was going to wait a few more years before making a video of them. I’m also waiting for more flowers and fruit, but then I saw this video’s title and I was thinking that you had beaten me to it. Ha ha! Thanks for the background info. I suggest adding it to the video description. BTW - There is a nice image of one in my preview slideshow, if you want to know what they look like for now.

Cool, its just like a bigger version of mine. ONLY..I notice on Google, small so called T. terschekii are much more fine spined, with a reddish ring at the top,and girthy at even 1 '. Mine was sold as such by UC Berkeley and is always green, slender, with heavily segmented ribs at about 16".. Will the real one stand up?

Give it a few years with lots of sun, and it will soon catch up. But I have notced how the same specie of cactus can vary, depending on where it is planted.

Why do you think Trichocereus makes sense? The current phylogenetic information points to very minor genetic differences between Echinopsis and Trichocereus, minor changes that produce dramatic morphological differences. Just because they look different doesn't mean that they're distantly related or deserve their own group, hence why the old taxonomy was thrown out, there were so many botanists back in the day trying to make a name for themselves by putting these plants in their own unique unnecessary groups, just bad taxonomy as we now know better. It makes sense when you look at the consistent features in related cactuses, for example the flowers of Echinopsis.

The physical appearance dictates how we ordinary folks relate to the plants we see, not taxonomy. Given a choice I will still state that size matters.
