"After the soil is dried out completely, I would give it another 5-6 days before watering it again." No wonder my moon cactus rotted! I didn't realize that they needed so little water. It is quite difficult to tell when they require more water just by visual cues. Definitely a good tip to know as I try to reroot what I managed to save from rot Because the moon cactus is such a statement cactus, I'd pair it with a low-lying green cactus, like ripple jade, or a small delicate flower-like succulent, like october daphne or string of buttons
@froggybibi4 жыл бұрын
to be fair a lot of them just rot for no apparent reason, i watered mine properly and the top rotted off lol
@tradertom48433 жыл бұрын
haha at least you did it with just a moon cactus, most cacti require dry cycles. and even more little water to become dormant during winter months

This makes me wonder how the original moon cactus was made.
@samueljohnson48064 жыл бұрын
The original Gymnocalycium mihanovichii is green and occasionally it will produce variegated (albino) pups. It's a form of mutation.

I agree with Ramona. I always thought they were painted, or were otherwise unnatural. That said, I just bought a pink one. Thank goodness I learned here they don't take full sun. I plan to plant it in an arrangement with a Fairy Castle cactus, which I think will look good. I'll need either another plant or perhaps just some attractive rocks or crystals to balance it out. Still thinking that over.

I learned a lot about moon cactus in this video (to begin with it has a really cool name like “moon cactus” :) Also previously I had one of these that every baby I removed died, so now in the video I learned that they can’t make it on their own because it doesn’t actually make chlorophyll (good to know) and that’s why it’s grafted to the lower cactus 💡

I potted my moon cactus with a zebra type succulent in the middle and another cactus on opposite corner. i dont know what type of cactus the other one was. it looked like the kind you see in the desert with very few tiny spines. unfortuneately the zebra grew so big so fast it started to push the cacti over. so i repotted everything singly. love your channel. i've learned soooo much!

Wow! That's so funny that it's actually just grafted on, I've always assumed it was just a part of the plant! I find it difficult to pair plants with even some of the less poky but still spiny varieties, cause it's hard to plant the poky one in the first place, but then you have to be reaching around it to plant the other! Even my aloe vera has poked holes in my other plants.

I had one of these for a couple years and then it started to decline so cut off the top part that can’t survive on its own and now the bottom cactus is growing and thriving by itself. Before I cut off the top, the bottom cactus never grew. Pretty cool to watch it develop its own growth.

I think Moon Cactus looks best planted just the way you have them alone in one pot. When I first bought mine, I planted 2 in one pot and then decided I didn't like them paired. So I repotted and gave them their own pot and I now have 5 of them.
