Superboys of Malegaon Movie Review by Sucharita Tyagi - Superboys of Malegaon doesn’t paint a rosy picture of the reality it occupies. “Yeh dekho small town ke log kitne cute hote hain aww” waali trap ko bohot sakshamta se side-step karke film kisi false sense of comfort ya hope dene mein interested nahi hai. Malegaon jaise shehron mein upward mobility ke liye laakhon papad belne ke baad bhi success haath nahi lage, yeh possibility real hai. The tragic setting lends itself beautifully to the opportunity to explore the respite a make-believe world of story-telling can provide in a place like Malegaon. Ek aadmi ko cancer hua hai, par doctor bhi usko diagnosis samjhaane ke liye Rajesh Khanna ki film Anand ka sahaara leta hai, unironically.
The closing credits make it abundantly clear that perhaps until this moment when the film is being spoken about at TIFF, this story lay largely forgotten, most men and a few women associated with the pioneers of Malegaon’s film industry eventually didn’t amount to much. I would even say the writing struggles momentarily to find this balance - of giving hope and taking it away at the same time.
But because it leaves you with a feeling ki chalo kuch saal kisi ne mazey toh kiye, aapada mein koi avasar toh khoja, the eventual vibe is, to put it simply, wholesome.

Superboys of Malegaon is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language film directed by Reema Kagti based on the life of Nasir Shaikh and other amateur filmmakers in the Indian city of Malegaon.The film was inspired by the 2008 documentary Supermen of Malegaon.
The film is scheduled to premiere in the Gala section at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival on September 13, 2024.
The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF, often stylized as tiff) is one of the most prestigious and largest publicly attended film festivals in the world, founded in 1976 and taking place each September. It is also a permanent destination for film culture operating out of the TIFF Lightbox cultural centre, located in Downtown Toronto.

Hey Sucharita, this is completely my opinion , I may be wrong I am big fan of yours since Not a movie review episodes, but in this particular review I felt that you explained plenty of story plots which seems to be spoiler for other viewer irrespective of that if we can talk about camera work, sound design , costumes or plenty of other things.

I haven't watched this movie but I hope it won't change the love and heart I had for the original documentary and Nasir Shaikh, don't know that documentary had a heart of its own, remaking it into a film could be a great challenge.
