It was a great reaction by the Russian driver realizing immediately that he is outmatched.. If he turns or stops everyone on the BTR dies. He hammers down so the Bradley can only get a few shots in and gets in cover as quick as he can once he's past the Bradley. Wasn't his first day on the job.

My buddy had an IED go off next to his Bradley in Iraq, a 155mm artillery round. He told me that it shook them up but they cut the guy in half who had set it off with a long wire and a battery. True the first version, and the first upgrade were not worth a damn but the later ones are great

@@Cody38Superexactly, I spent 15 years on a Bradley and experienced it go through all of the upgrades. I still get sick of people thinking they are tanks. I retired in 2006 and until then, we always had a mix of 1 tank platoon/2 Bradley platoons, or 2 tank platoons/1 Bradley platoon and we were highly effective at destroying anything we saw. The dismounts worked perfectly with our units by covering our asses against their dismounted assets, and the dismounts would relay enemy positions to the company so that the tanks or Bradley’s could maneuver or creep up to destroy any threats.

@@unskilled822 Being destroyed would mean you didn't back down from a fight wouldn't it?
@SgtBeltfed3 ай бұрын
@@unskilled822 You don't see BTR's with ATGM's because of the one man turret and the doors. A one man turret isn't going to hack it as a tank destroyer because the vehicle commander either does double duty as the gunner, or can't see anything so can't find targets. The doors are an issue because you can't reload the missile from the troop compartment, you'd have to climb out and stand on the hull roof instead. Better off using them to deploy ATGM teams by driving up and telling the teams to leg it, which is what Russia does. Also, the BTR-82 isn't an IFV, it's just a fair to poor APC that Russia shoehorned a 30mm cannon into. Inadequate protection from artillery fragments, no mine protection, lack of a rear door combined with needing to dismount from tiny side doors. (Or out the top hatches if you fancy a twisted ankle)

It looked to me like the BTR had a shack on its back to provide extra protection. This may have provided cover for the troops. This could have limited the turret movement. This reminds me of the 40k meme “drive me closer I want to hit them with my sword!”

@@c0ldsh0w3r I find myself asking that very question. I think they hide somewhere if they can and that’s really bad if you are used to things like food and something to drink every now and then. I have seen many videos showing a single tank without any kind of support moving around and that makes me wonder what they are supposed to do. That didn’t work well in Georgia, a lone tank was an easy target. Sometimes, I get the impression that russian soldiers are expected to find food on their own. Even that russian helicopter pilot that was killed was told that he was an adult and had to find a place to sleep by himself. Very good question and I’m sure rookie conscripts wonder about what their best option is.

@@c0ldsh0w3rAgainst an enemy just as spread out as them they can do a lot. You seem to think that the few men that Russia sends is going against an entire division. No. They are also going against 6 or so Ukrainian guys. Usually if they win they get to take the Ukrainian position and if they lose Ukraine gets to replace any losses they took and the process is repeated. In this case Russia won the battle destroying a Leopard, Bradley and some Ukrainian infantry which allowed them to take most of Sokil by now.

The bigger issue is armor protection. A Bradley is well protected from Russian 30mm from the front and sides. It might even stop it from the rear under ideal conditions. The BTR-82 only has adequate protection from a 25mm Bushmaster from the front. The sides and rear are extremely vulnerable.

Seems like the cope cage and meat armour worked. Possibly because it tricked the Bradley's gunner, and he aimed a bit high. Or, perhaps, Ukrainians thought there was a chance to trophy the vehicle, and aimed high in order to take out maximum orcs at minimum damage to the potential prize?

Couldn't help but notice that at 00:50 the BTR is hit in the side at the rear. At this point the Bradley is on the road straight ahead. Shrapnel sprays out at 90 degrees. It seems an unlikely hit from the oncoming Bradley, particularly as the Bradley turret is not tracking either and we never *actually* see it fire. Is another vehicle involved? Someone is certainly dropping arty on something in the field closer to the camera. This would explain why the BTR driver goes off-road to the right into a dip - he's seeking cover from fire on the left. I would like to know what happened to that Bradley and why it was not shooting.

The Russian BTR was taking hits from the Bradley well before it came into video frame . It was basically disabled as it went past the Bradley . This is where the Bradley shines , it's ability to lay down accurate and very quick continuous fire at short and long range , before other slower operating guns can be deployed onto target . It's harder to see at range and more maneuverable . Bigger is not always better .
