Suck training for the Older Baby

Our tongue needs to move in and out, side to side, and up and down. Some times babies can have decreased range of motion with their tongue (as well as strength) and need to do exercises to improve. When baby is older, their participation is needed. Start with a calm baby who is in a playful mood. You also have to be calm and playful. When baby has no teeth you can do these with a clean finger. Once they have teeth, you can use a tool like a teething tool, like this Nuk brush. An Ark grabber or a Chewy P which can be purchased from Amazon also work well as can the grabber from Beckman. They are soft and baby can bite on them to improve jaw strength. Always ask baby permission before doing any work inside the mouth. Talk through the exercises and imitate what you want baby to do.
