Oscar Isaac is a fantastic actor. Truly one of the only who is comparable to the big stars of the 60s, 70s and 80s. If I had a list for top 5 modern actors (likened with their past counter parts), it’d be: 1) Leonardo DiCaprio - stands on his own entirely. What’s Eating Gilbert Grape still remains his best performance and always, ALWAYS brings me to tears. 2) Christoph Waltz - unique style of acting that is bordering directly between Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken. Very intense. 3) Joaquin Phoenix - He plays a mentally ill character with such ease and makes his movies unbearable to watch coz his performances have so much weight. 4) Tom Hardy - Strong charisma and a wide range of roles he can pull off. He’s perfectly described as this generation’s Marlon Brando. 5) Oscar Isaac - Very impressive actor who is so transformable, yet his voice keeps him from feeling like a completely different actor (in a good way). Total Al Pacino of today, even Ethel mannerisms in which most his characters speak.

I think this scene was supposed to give Madame Gorski and Blue some backstory. This is clearly the club, but it's run as a casino. I think that Blue and Madame Gorski were entertainers in the club while it was still under the control of the prior owner. It flashes back and forth between the past, where Blue and Madame Gorski are performing, to the present, when Babydoll arrives and is seeing how things work around there. I think maybe the guy who got shot was the club's previous owner and maybe Blue inherited it or bought it. Maybe Blue wasn't always a jerky perv, and Madame Gorski wasn't his puppet instructor, but they were both hopeful bright-eyed people hoping to make it in showbiz. That's the way it seems to me, because it actually looks like they were IN LOVE at that point. I'm guessing things took them down two different paths, and greed planted its evil seed in Blue's heart. Madame Gorski COULD'VE left him, but she loved him too much to do it. She'd been silently hoping he'd go back to being the guy she fell in love with in the first place. That's how I interpreted it, anyway.

This scene is amazing, but I understand why they kept it out of the theatrical cut: It kinda glorifies what's happening and shows the girls having fun doing that when the rest of the movie clearly shows us they hated it
@agenttheater56 жыл бұрын
I think that they don't mind the dancing itself and that Madame Gorski is trying to make the fact that that's their life more bearable by turning their dances into forms of self-expression, the problem is that they're only taking control of their sexuality for the pleasure of those men. Besides, we see what happens later behind the curtains and the costumes to remind us why they want to get out.
@elderscrolls694206 жыл бұрын
from a practical standpoint, it doesn't really advance the plot a whole lot, and it may have had to be cut for coherency/the film's runtime. it's too bad, too: it's the only big 'dance number' that i remember, and it's really well done and has a lot of really clever details thrown in. it's definitely a favorite.
@portablethunderstorm24786 жыл бұрын
i wish they kept this scene in. the whole movie talks a big game about how great baby doll's dancing is, and that the other girls are also good at dancing, but we never actually see any dancing. and like @agenttheater5 said, it shows how madame gorski is doing what she can to help the girls. it gives more gravity to her line to blue "i teach them to survive you"
