I walked into a MuteMath show years ago in LA and I was haunted by the sounds of a young rock group out of Texas called Eisley. To this day, its been my favorite show. Fast forward 10 plus years and the band members from both bands are married and doing their own thing... amazing. #relationshipgoals

Andrew Williams those Eisley albums are still astonishing. And still sound like nothing else out. That was such original and well written music.

Too bad that union basically killed MuteMath. I mean, props to Darren for making his marriage a priority, but it sounds from a recent interview like he quit MuteMath because it was putting too much pressure on his marriage.

MuteMath gave me the best music of my life; hands down. It's one of those philosophical questions though were if you saw the future, would you still go through with it. I bet if Darren saw his future 15 years ago, he would still have chosen to be a part of MuteMath and create all that amazing music. He just might have planned his exit strategy a little better and a little sooner. Now that i think about it... would Darren have met Stacy without MuteMath?

Let me clarify, I'm so thankful for Darren and the rest of MuteMath (past and present) for creating some of the most memorable, meaningful music I've experienced in my 32 years on this planet. One of the best live shows I've ever experienced also back in 2007 after their self-titled album. I'm blessed to have been able to experience it, and my life is better for it. It's just a shame that it had to come to an end. That's very true, they probably wouldn't have met without MuteMath. I never got the sense that Darren ever regretted his time in MuteMath, only that he feels like he stayed longer than he should have - even if he never really voiced that desire to his bandmates. From the interview I heard, it seems he started losing his fire for MuteMath some time after Odd Soul came out (which is around the time he got married to Stacy). I think him leaving the band was a two part thing where (A) MuteMath was putting pressure on his marriage because Stacy basically put her life on hold for his career and Darren felt like he wasn't being a good husband and father. And (B) because I think Darren longed to do his own thing apart from MuteMath. I think he and Stacy had dreams of their own that they couldn't pursue as long as Darren was "married" to MuteMath. So I don't hold it against Darren. The only thing that irks me is the way he left so abruptly right after a new album and right before a major tour. I suspect that is why he and Paul aren't talking anymore because I'm sure some harsh words were said. But life is too short to go through it being angry with one's brothers. I'm praying for some kind of reconciliation eventually. I love Darren's work and I love MuteMath. The whole thing still makes me sad.

I first heard of Eisley back in '04 when I lived outside of Austin, and I've seen the band 11 times since. Additionally, I've seen Sucré now twice and hope to again. A Minor Bird and Loner still both continue to feel fresh with each listen, and I can't wait to hear more new music as it comes. (I also not-so-secretly pray [beg?] you'll start gifting us with annual covers again because the three you did are spectacular.)
