Martial Solal has just died at the ripe old age of 97.He was a very well known French jazz pianist,also the cousin of a good friend of ours.He played with Sidney Bechet ,Johnny Griffin,Dizzy Gilespie and some others.I think he aso wrote the incidental music for 'A bout de souffle', one of Godard's first films with Belmondo and Jean Seberg.Thank you for the medium sudoku.

Thanks for letting me know. Going back to the days of Sidney Bechet is really like jazz ancient history. I remember that movie but don't think I've watched it in more than 30 years. I think I'll look for it and remember Martial as he disappears into the jazz ether with the other jazz greats like Dizzy.

I've been so neglectful of the NYT puzzles this year. I liked this one. For a medium-rated grid, it was actually quite tricky, unless you spotted the two URs, which cut through it like lightsabers. I hope you're well, Neill. I'll try to catch up with some of your videos when I get my head together, but I'm a bit lost in the clouds lately.

To me it was a hard puzzle to do NF without any computer assistance.
