after the solo "what does it take to turn you on" is another magical moment in British music history.

So I'm American, and at the age where I was only really turning onto music as Britpop was fading away, so I kind of got into it in an out-of-order fashion. I had and loved a few Oasis singles, knew only Blur's "Blur", then got turned onto Radiohead and kind of abandoned the popscene for their more experimental bent, years later I went and checked out the more obscure Oasis stuff, early Blur, which in turn led me to Stone Roses, Pulp, The La's, loved the 'top bands' of Britpop precursor Shoegaze. BUT...Suede has always confused me. I sort of WANT to love them, I love the style, the androgyny, the sort of hedonistic anarchy of it all. But it somehow feels like, perhaps they didn't age as well as the rest? The 'phaser' guitar on this kind of drags the tune down a bit. Or, maybe it's something more simple: This, and a number of Suede songs it seems, rely on minor keys, whereas 99% of Britpop is strongly major-key, and that creates a very different feeling. The "What does it take to turn you on?" section/riff is the closest I come to "getting" this band

I thought this was more psychedelic than Bowie, especially as it hit me like a sock filled with sand when I was fifteen.

Didn't Anderson write this while on acid or ecstasy?
@snowbelle749 жыл бұрын
Probably. Drugs were a big part of his life and definitely enhanced his creativity tbh. Until about late 97, when he became addicted to crack. The album that followed,Head Music , was pretty patchy.
