Classic album. Such an incredibly moving, if heartbreaking, track penned by Brett over lunch when he worked at a community center in Highgate. According to Brett, "mothers would trundle in with their handicapped kids, and their mascara would be running because they'd spent the whole morning crying, and the only escape they had was to get a load of Valium down them."

Back in 1998 my mother took an overdose of sleeping pills and died. Part of the lyrics I wrote on a note and put with her in her grave. Special sad memories.

I listened to this haunting gem yesterday and and I felt very moved! Suede's debut album is one of the finest ones released in 1993. Shame the sound is a little terrible!

i wonder if people give bernard the credit he is due, the way i see it is that suede in that carnation were special, the musicianship on the first and second albums is delightful, they gelled, now im not anti-brett because the melodrama is the key to suede, it would not have worked otherwise but i feel that bernard was the driving force and the key to those absolute classics on the debut, he is a fine musician and im sure his childhood idol j. marr might agree!!!

It's so hard, trying to explain that want to skip time, that hatred of the present and a craving for the future. You know you're wasting your life but you can skip on to a time where things aren't so bad. Slip through the pain to a time when you might be happy. A handful of diazepam and a few cans, some Zopiclone and a bit of time. Good luck guys. See you in the next life.

please answer someone: i wanna do a contest with my friends with sleeping pills in this boring class we have, we're gonna take them and we are gonna put $10 each and whoever stays awake the longest wins the money. someone is gonna watch over to see who stays up and who falls asleep/passes out. i wanna know how many to take and how long is it gonna take for the effects to kick in or if the pills even work that way.
