I saw this live at Glastonbury in ‘93. Sun setting behind the pyramid stage, hot air balloons rising into the blue sky. Bandmates and friends with me. Having a moment. One of the most profound moments in my life. Just magical and, to this day, the best gig experience I’ve ever had.

An emotional song, Brett wrote it about his mother who passed away. They are from Haywards Heath in Sussex, there is a line in the song about going "down to Worthing..." which is on the Sussex coast, some miles south of Haywards Heath.

I don't. It was their best period but Suede went on to make some interesting, diverse albums without him. A listen to the extended cut of Wild Ones and the initial ideas for Asphalt World would tell you they risked venturing down the path of the Bernard Butler Guitar Experience. This always reminds me of the Depeche Mode/Alan Wilder argument. They made some wonderful music together, but the partnership reached a limit and the band would continue on to fresher pastures.
@Meathcat4 жыл бұрын
They would have been a totally different band if he had. I think Richard and Neil's contributions have been immense and I love the band they have become now. 'The Blue Hour' is an outstanding album.

Even after all these years I can not decide which is my second favourite Suede song. It is between this, 2 of Us, Still life, and Big Time. Asphalt World is my number 1 Suede song none of their other songs can beat it for just punching through you chest grabbing your heart in both hands and then just grinding it to dust.

This is absolutely brilliant. This is so sad and feels strange in so many ways. Some people here are obviously missing their teenage years and they remember this time of gold. I wasn’t even a teenager, I was 7 and I was in a country where things went to shit and going to complete shit now. Seeing them, meeting Brett, again, just last month on so many nights made me happy and in tears because 90s were the best time of my life and yet I missed so much from the 90s and thank goodness I discovered Suede all those years ago. But I feel like crying because I’m not old enough now to remember them when they just started… oh life…
