This was my very first resin video. I had been creating resin art for some time now and was constantly being asked how I created my art. So decided to film the process. Initially, this video was only available to anyone who was a paying member of my Patreon account. Now that I have closed my Patreon account, I am making this video available to anyone to wants to watch it. I hope you get some enjoyment from it.
In this video I go into detail on how I created this resin sculpture, using a DIY polystyrene mould and a plastic bin liner. It was my first experiment in creating a mould and with hindsight, it would have been better if I stuck the plastic bin liner down. Having said that, it did turn out quite well.
Materials required:
• Polystyrene Panel (old packaging will do)
• Plastic Bin Liner
• Resin: Standard UV Resin from U-Resin: bit.ly/StandardUVResin
• Colour to tint resin (inks, paints or pigments will do)
• Acrylic Diamonds: bit.ly/acrylicdiamonds - Alternative Product: amzn.to/2Y7pVJi - US | amzn.to/2XWbdUt - UK
• D-Rings for hanging (optional): amzn.to/2WEqusw
Books
The Essential Beginner’s Guide to Resin Art Techniques
eBook version: bit.ly/resinguide
Paperback version: amzn.to/2XEmqxn (US) | amzn.to/2NMKAkY (UK)

Hi sue, I have been working with epoxy resin for about a year, I have watched many videos on work and ideas, I started with using molds, which turned out lovely, I live in the valleys of South Wales UK and I am enjoying working with resin, your work is amazing, I am struggling to find a good resin that don't bubble too much, and don't cost the earth, I'm only working part time and my hubby lost his job just before Christmas, so finding a good resin which is not too expensive is important. Any ideas would be great, keep doing your videos as they help with how to combat issues. Thank you for sharing what you create. X

Neat idea. :) Can use grocery bags too. At least the ones I have which say they are HDPE because resin doesn't bond to HDPE plastic. I have a lot of saved from coffee canisters, vinegar and milk jugs etc. Basically I set aside anything that says it is HDPE. :) - Heidi

Yes, I have used grocery bags. You can use any kind of plastic, resin doesn’t stick to it. Well I haven’t found any that it sticks to 💕
@BlackCat_2
@BlackCat_2 5 жыл бұрын
@@SueFindlay I have found some product packaging that the resin bonds too. One was the clear thin plastic attached to cardboard that held push pins. I was able to get the resin out but the plastic was destroyed in the process. I know of several tapes though I can use to fix that. Metal tape for AC ducts which I use to repair my ducts under my house. Also Tyvek tape (house wrap) works. I can use those to turn anything into a resin mold as long as I cover it with the tape. This includes cardboard boxes. :D

@BlackCat_2
@BlackCat_2 5 жыл бұрын
@@SueFindlay Welcome. :) I should also point out not to use the sticky side of the metal tape. The first time I used it I thought I could but I was so wrong. Never got it off the resin. That being said if you want a shiny silver backing to your resin then use the sticky side. ;) It's the shiny side that doesn't stick so I tape it to cardboard etc. when planning a resin mold.

This is a really gorgeous piece! If you do this again, after putting in the bin liner, use some silicone to outline it. Maybe that way there is a barrier to hold in the resin, and a pit of protection from the heat.

I'm new to this type of art, but can appreciate the creative possibilities! Can this resin art stand up to being outside in different types of weather? Maybe not freezing weather, but say in the heat of summer? Will it turn yellowish or stay clear?
@SueFindlay
@SueFindlay 3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend placing it in the sun. The UV light will cause it to turn yellow quicker. Plus, the heat will soften the resin. 💕

Hi sue, I have a question, is there any way to remove a hair from a cured piece without having to re resin the whole piece....I guess it would be like a spot repair. Really appreciate your thoughts.
@SueFindlay
@SueFindlay 5 жыл бұрын
I have never had to remove a hair after it has cured. I tend to spot them while the resin is still curing. I have removed them at the sticky stage and had to apply heat to help smooth the resin out. Another thing, as I like to add texture to resin, you don’t see imperfections so much. So I don’t stress over it. Having said that, if I did have a hair, I would use a dremmel to remove it and attempt a spot repair. If that didn’t work, then I would look to see if I could add anything to it, like the acrylic gems or crushed glass.

The only way to share videos on your KZbin channel, is to create your own playlist. So for instance you could create a playlist and call it resin sculptures. Any videos you find of resin sculptures can be added to that list. It is a good way to keep your favourite videos in one place, making them easy to find if you want to watch it again.
