On a two day visit to Rwanda, the Home Secretary was shown round the first houses already built for the migrants on an estate in Kigali that is designed to house a mix of asylum seekers flown from the UK and local Rwandans.
The two and three bedroomed homes - costing between £14,000 and more than £30,000 - are part of a 2,500-house “town” costing nearly £100 million for 15,000 people, of which a portion are to be earmarked for migrants deported from the UK.

@@Slots-Room It'll be up to the immigrants, they won't be prisoners in Rwanda and will be free to leave Rwanda if they like. I'm beginning to warm up to this idea. I mean the objective is being met, if Rwanda is deemed a safe country for refugees. If a country like Rwanda can benefit from new infrastructure, opportunities, and investment and at the same time, offer safe-haven for people affected by war or persecution, it's a win-win. It's also a great chance to learn how to build greener, more sustainable, low carbon towns and such models can spread around the world. The founding of these towns can utilise the skills of the refugees arriving so everyone has a purpose.

This is a waste of the taxpayers' money, and Rwanda is just an act. The UK government has the power to stop human trafficking from the sources unless the government is running the business itself
@ColinSinclair

It's cynical to suggest that taxpayers money would be more efficiently spent processing assylum seekers claims than housing them in hotels or shipping them to Rwanda. It's cynical to suggest that tory donors might benefit from running these facilities and schemes. It's cynical to suggest that the government are manufacturing this crisis as a dog whistle to distract from their mess and pilfering. Congratulations on your cynicism /rational thinking.

What rules will apply to people forcibly deported to Rwanda from the UK? Would they be held as prisoners or could they get the next plane out? Could they fly to France and get back to Calais for another try? If they remain in Rwanda who will pay for their board and lodging? Will it be the British taxpayer? And how long would that continue? Indefinitely? And suppose they have no money, no passport or any document by which to determine their nationality. Would that mean their stay in Rwanda is, in effect, a whole life sentence?
