The insane thing is that they pull this off perfectly live. You should buy the concert DVD "Heavy Metal Never Dies" (I recommend CD Japan) and react to every song on it. 18 songs, all performed spectacularly, in a huge variety of styles. It is one of the great achievements of the rock era.

The other day I was listening to Lovebites on random play. For the first few minutes I honestly didn’t know whether it was the live or the studio version. Live, Lovebites use a backing track very sparingly, because the album versions have multiple layers and might sound a little thinner Live. But as for the important stuff, namely the leads, the drums, bass and vocals are all indistinguishable from studio versions. They are the tightest live band you will ever witness.

After composing "When Destinies Align" , Miyako gave it the temporary title "Lovebites". She had been saving that honor since 2017 for use when she wrote a song "devine' enough to bear the band's name. Miyako described the track as melodic speed metal. @@GrayFox14 My understanding is that it is not unusual in Japan for preschool children as young as 2 to start on the piano. If a child shows promise at a preschool age, then intensive music education will continue. If not, then the child will concentrate in more academic areas. This is from a paper I read about a year ago on Japanese Piano Pedagogy but my memory is far from perfect. Evidently, Miyako and Midori both showed great musical skill at a young age and developed into what we see today.

The upbringing system, national traditions contribute to the identification of talents among children at an early age. And not only in music. Asami from the age of 2 went to ballet, plus she learned to play the piano, then she sang. Midori and Miyako were already familiar with music from the age of 2-3. Haruna and Miho also mastered musical instruments at school, including the piano. In Japan, children, starting from kindergarten, begin to learn something. Music, sports, drawing, art, dance, theater, etc. And then they come to school where a lot of this is already compulsory disciplines . Plus, after classes, all children attend additional circles and sections at school (sports, choreography, art, music, etc.) When they leave school at the age of 18 (in Japan, they study at school for 12 years), many are already professionals in their chosen directions. Another example, Fami..Already in high school (at the age of 18) she played the bass so many will envy. More keyboards, sings, writes songs. This is just what we know. Fami celebrated her graduation from school with the release of a solo album .. This is how talents appear in Japan.

There are two live videos where all the girls are singing: "Burden of time" and "Empty daydream", the first in live in studio 2020 and second live in Tokio 2019. About the two different styles of Midori and Miyako, the first girls (blond hair pony) attempted for 3 years the guitar school and the second girl Miyako, after 15 years of piano (begun at 3 y.o.), begun herself study of guitar at 18 y.o. with a manual of dummies and her style is considered not orthodox for fingers position. Nice reaction folks. Others have covered most suggestions I'd make, and I'll throw in one that is often overlooked, Today is the Day. (Live 2021 Tokyo performance). This really showcases their talent, even has Asami (lead singer) on piano, although usually this is the specialty of guitarist Miyako, who btw is also a concert level pianist. Even drummer Haruna can play the keys, I believe Japanese kids are encouraged to play instruments as part of their schooling. A little tip about staying in frame - I'm not sure what camera gear you use, but you're broadcasting in 4:3 aspect ratio. Shooting 16:9 will fill the frame nicely. Cheers. 😉

The other members (except Haruna, the drummer) do sing backing vocals on some tracks. Especially Miyako (brunette guitarist) used to do quite a lot of backing for Asami in earlier concerts in choruses, but doesn't do it anymore, I don't know why, because she is an able singer with a pleasant voice and the backups added a nice harmony layer. For one of your next reactions I recommend a track called Empty Daydream kzbin.info/www/bejne/oonLkKiDgp5noLc which a) shows a somewhat different side of Lovebites that you might be surprised about, b) features chorus vocals (not backing vocals) by the other members and c) starts with a little extra surprise that I won't tell you about (and please, nobody else in the comments should). 🙂

Nothing changed. In songs where Miyako had backing vocals in the past, he is also present today. In those songs where initially there was no backing vocals, respectively, Miyako does not sing. Backing vocals can also be distributed differently between members of the band when performing the same song at different concerts.The "Edge of the World" you mentioned in 2019 starts with Midori's guitar and Miyako's piano, and in 2020 only Miyako's piano. Midori's guitar joining later. Or in 2020, at the concert, "Swan Song" is performed together with "Chopin's Etude", which looks logical, given what these two works are about and to whom they are dedicated. In 2021, "Swan Song" was played without Chopin's Etude. And so on. Musicians often try some new options when performing already known songs, they can add or subtract something. In my opinion, it is not important

There are times when I doubt whether they are really playing, but it is surprising because they are actually playing. As an anecdote about them, "It's fine to compose, but we made a difficult song that we couldn't play with our skills. So we practiced desperately so that we could play it!" I think it's a typical Japanese episode to say, "After making a difficult song, I practice desperately." The ethnicity of the Japanese is to repeat the cycle of "always set a high goal and strive to exceed it. Once you have achieved that goal, set an even higher goal and work towards it again." I will continue. Goals don't exist forever. In Japan, the ultimate person who does such things is called a syokunin. 「難しい曲を作ってしまってから必死に練習する」というのは、日本人らしいエピソードだと思います。 日本人の民族性は「常に高い目標を設定し、それを越える為に努力する事。そしてそれが達成できたら、更に高い目標を設定し、今度はそれに向かって再び努力する事」の繰り返しをしていきます。永遠にゴールが存在しません。 その様な事をする究極的な人を、日本では「職人(syokunin)」と呼びます。

They all sing backing vocals, except the drummer. Their live shows are just as sensational as the studio recordings. I personally feel Asami's vocals sound better live most of the time. All of the videos on their channel and any from Japan are taken from their DVDs which are professionally mixed so they sound just like a studio recording.

I enjoy your reaction/analysis style. Who would ever think you'd find a band you could (and do) say is DragonForce on steroids. Miyako & Midori are simply breathtaking, and there is just no better guitar lead duo going today, if not ever. This song I feel is just a little bit better than the live version. The girls sing backing tracks across many songs. Another music video, Winds of Transylvania (VLAD LOVE version) I feel is also better studio. I second all of your recommendations, but in the case of "Break the Wall", the word "Testamentesque" seems much more appropriate to me than "Slayeresque" - I can but assume that people who mention Slayer in the context of "Break the Wall" simply aren't familiar with Testament's debut "The Legacy" and especially the song "Over the Wall". But even if our associations might be different, I assume we both agree that "Break the Wall" is an excellent Thrash Metal song, the best live performance of it being the one from 2020 you already linked to. Together with "The Hammer of Wrath" and "Set the World on Fire", it's also my favourite Lovebites-song, though there are many others of their songs I like about the same, thus it's nearly impossible to pick an overall favourite.

@@MissLoonasSpeech Over the Wall is the prison MV, correct? To me Break The Wall baseline riff and drum fills makes me think of the beginning of Slayer's Raining Blood, certainly not the rest of the song. Just my opinion. But I do find similarities between the Hammer and Testament's Disciples of the Watch. 😀

@@MissLoonasSpeech I became a metalhead in 1971 (Zeppelin). I easily could have said Testament too, but their live performance feels like Slayer to me. Thrash is my favorite genre of metal, and the 2020 performance is epic!! When Over the Wall was first on MTV, I made my Mom watch it. I loved that song, and just wanted my Mom to know what music her son loved 😂.
