Saying OG/true sirens also isn't true, because fish/underwater sirens are also OG/true sirens, even if not in Greek mythology, but they also belong to very famous folklore and legends, even if they don't originate from that culture specificaly, and also are the ones expanded around the entire world and as such most widely known and recognized, not like the other ones, and to be honest I also prefer the underwater ones, probably also because for me they are the true sirens, I find them cooler and I've had far more contact with them as sirens and seen them many times in many different settings and stories, we also have harpies as widely known creatures in folklore and legends, and they are very similar to the greek sirens and would confound a lot

EXTREMELY refreshing to see Sirens displayed as birds properly. I UNDERSTAND why (Rivera-Herrans and?) fandom went for a mermaid-esque display, it's a common interpretation among other things, but I have been Dying A Little Inside because Sirens and Harpies are some of my favorite classical Greek monsters and Sirens have their own included tragedy of literally having to die if someone heard their prophecies and didn't throw themselves into the waves with madness. Idk, it's refreshing. Love me a bird monster. I also do adore the entire vase display, from the artstyle to the portrayal of Poseidon to the Siren just examining her nails, very Bored. "Oh nooooo." And the last couple seconds before the arrow flies are. It's a very good shot. Here eyes out of the camera. Odysseus looks at the audience but actually he's looking at Eurelacus. (Also it's just hot. Girl ur strap is slippin. Girl we can see ur bra strap. Oh no she has beeswax in she cant hear us-) also, 2:09, Odysseus pushing his hair back and looking at the camera all sultry, I literally said out loud, "slut", so, good job, really captured his energy. (I really hope these jokes do land, but honestly, great job altogether!)

OMFG!!!!!! I love this fresh take! This is the first time I'm seeing sirens as birds rather than mermaids. What I REALLY love is how Sirenelope isn't hiding how out of place the glamour is or how sinister her intentions really are. This may be weird to say about a mythical creature, but not hiding the fact that she's walking on water, jumping on the ship and off, and lets the glamour drop so close to Ody is actually more realistic since they wouldn't have to work that hard to conceal their true intentions if their power was really working. Also, thank you for showing the arrow. You caught the whiplash mood change perfectly. I knew it was coming and still jumped when it happened. Standing ovation. Excellent work!
@Goomsies4 ай бұрын
I think I read somewhere that the Sirens were actually cursed creatures that would sing prophesies that drove anybody who heard them to throw themselves into the water in a fit of insanity. But there was a flip side, because if a victim didn't drown themselves, the sirens would die instead. So technically, Odysseus really didnt need to kill them all. They would have died as long as he didnt kill himself. Then again, Odysseus has beeswax in his ears in this version, so maybe he did need to do it.

This was amazing! If this is your first animatic ever then this is extremely impressive!! You should be proud of yourself! Now onto the animatic itself, I love how you draw Ody's physicality especially how he used his arms to seem casual and relaxed but the constant juxtaposing of his muscles remind us he's probably ready to fight back and/or ready to resist the Siren physically. Also the style lends itself very well with ancient greek aesthetics, like what you did with the vase. Also that transition from the Siren tracing water into a very creepy inky Scylla? Awesome. Chills. Also love how you have Eurylochus shoot the Siren, I don't often see artists give the arrow shot to other crewmates, and this makes the end of the song gain a new interpretation. Lastly, I love how we can clearly see how much Ody misses Penelope where he's indulging in looking at the siren because he knows this is the only visage of his wife he'll really get for a while AND it's been 'twelve years or so' since he's seen an image of her. Great job!!!!

This is impressive, and that it's your first ever animatic makes it even more so. You definitely have talent with both drawing and storytelling. The vase explanation was a cool moment, which I haven't seen anyone else do with this song. I like that Ody sirens the siren onto the ship. I think it underlines his "epic" tricksy-ness, echoing back to other moments, like when he calls himself "nobody" earlier with Polyphemus. Some people animate that he sirens her, but not commonly. I like to see it tho! And then you did it uniquely: him pulling her up. I haven't seen that before, and it was fantastic. After all, "Suffering" is a tug-of-war for survival, and then Ody literally wins with a final pull that makes her move toward him? Good stuff! Afterward, the teamwork there with Eury? An extra *chef's kiss*! I like moments when their friendship is underlined, because I think it enhances the characters, their decisions, and the emotional weight of what eventually happens. So yeah, really nice art, and cool scenes that complement the narrative!
