Nezuko Kamado is someone with intense mental fortitude, and her ironic title of the Chosen Demon was anything but divine intervention. Though while she dedicated her time within the series to dealing with her demonic influences, at no point could she ever speak. As to unnecessarily return to consciousness or take back control over her life, she could end up succumbing to Muzan's drawl.

I know that this video shows us that Nezuko is a lot deeper than we thought, but I still wish we saw her have more interaction with the crew to flesh out her character.

Usually "Suffering in silence" refers to some domestic turmoil that victims have to fight to maintain composure through. But suffering, saving your brother and his friends and even taking out a few demons along the way seems like the kind of suffering that builds character. Especially for Ms. Nezuko.

Nezuko may not be able to talk and had her mind reverted to that of a child, but I feel she was at least somewhat aware of the situation she was in. Losing her humanity and her family and almost killing her brother, but able to pull herself back to help him and his friends. It makes me wish she talked more often so what we could hear all of her thoughts and how she felt as a demon

I love how Nezuko's written so differently to the other characters as a result of her lack of speech as a demon. The story develops a lot of characters through their actions, but also dialogue naturally plays a very huge part as well. However, with Nezuko, while there is some dialogue, the vast majority of her character is shown purely through her actions. There's a lot of quite subtle character work and it just flows so nicely and really highlights the disconnect between her and other characters very well. She's probably my favorite character, though it's a very tough decision, I really love them all.

Esp that her character is just so different and it's interesting that we don't get much from her. Despite people's complaints of her, I felt like if they did the same like with most characters, not just in the anime but just flesh her out as we predict. It would just be that. Predictable. Having a "silent" character that's not there much but still the most important character in the story, is pretty interesting.

How ironic: Muzan essentially just burned away his chances to get the plant he craved by causing the chain of events that led to Tanjiro eventually ending him. His greed was his downfall.

I wonder if Muzan would've eventually gained the power to overcome the sun on his own had he never killed anyone. Though I guess he would not be Muzan anymore had that happened.

Probably, the story is adamant about punishing Muzan with ironic twists of fate, like how he doomed himself to centuries or millenia of hiding because his dumb ass killed his doctor out of spite only to discover that the medicine worked but was incomplete... Because he died

@yurimaldonado4966 Yeah, even after when he couldn't find the blue spider lillies and then killed most of the Kamado family who must’ve known where it grew and how to cultivate it. Made his search way harder than it needed to be by sheer nature of his own cruelty.

could her demon pattern be vine-like also as a reference to Holly Joestars vine-like Stand, since both were cause by the main villain and plot is about main character trying to cure them from this "curse"?

I will always love the route Gotouge took Nezuko’s character. Having her be a shell of her former self just adds much needed urgency to Tanjiro’s journey, and it makes when she finally becomes human again hit so much harder.

Glad you finally did a video on Nezuko, she's definitely a way better character than many of the other characters and even the main character himself, even while seemingly not having a personality or consciousness at the very start, until we finally see that she does, despite her curse.

@@milkman4528 every character in every story is a plot device, but the goal is to have them be more than just a plot device, which Nezuko succeeds in, as she is a fully fleshed out and developed character, has her own arc, her own unique personality and motivations, plays an important role, heavily connected to the themes and other characters, etc.

Wonderful essay! Nezuko is one of my favourite characters and I love her development a lot. She truely is one who had to constantly endure all through her life and that takes much strength 🥺.
