I love how the last song on the album is "Beginning of Sorrow". Makes sense, it's a sad time when a Suffocation album ends.
@SacredBurn0ut12 жыл бұрын
I agree with that. Its all metal and we should be a community that welcomes newcomers and not breathe down their neck about what they should and shouldn't listen to.

i have listened to the new album many times already and suffocation ARE at a level higher than everyone else. it is instantly recognizable as suffocation. they have risen the bar yet again. the production is the only thing that has changed.

There are moments nowadays when I wonder what happened to decent death metal. But whenever Suffocation releases an album, I am reminded of why my love for the genre grew steadily through the 90's and why I'm still an addict. \m/

This isn't my usual area of musical tastes, but I still quite enjoy this song! I'll check out more Suffocation stuff.
The new album is fucking killer, good work. 20 + years and not a single misstep in your entire discography.

The reason it doesn't sound like their earlier work is because of Culross. Amazing drummer,& suffocation is still one of my favorite bands! Bands go different ways,try new things,but suffocation is still at the top of the heap!!!

Suffocation is one band that NEVER compromised and tried to make their musick more widely 'listenable' to get their foot in the door of a mainstream market. Bless them for that, the best death metal band to have ever been spawned, and Pierced From Within, fucking FLAWLESS. The blueprint for good, and brutal death metal, Pierced is the equivalent to the bible in the death metal world. And Effigy, Despise The Sun, etc... They have NEVER released something that sucked, and evidently, never will!

Man fell from his grace, And strayed from the path His anger now intolerable, insidious Behold the pale white horse Hooded messenger of death is now set forth His dismal gaze cripples souls Renounce the seven deadly sins The air unfit to breathe The water poisoned by a blessing Darkened skies witness the final sunset Red rain showering from the heavens As grace descends Barren lands diseased Complete collapse of conditions Burning, searing, putrid air Inhale the toxic atmosphere Asphyxiate, drown in blood Boils the flesh and eat through tissue Torrid winds, oceans freeze Torrential acid rain The ground quakes separates Denying life, as grace descends Volcanic debris consumes those left alive Denying life, the extinction Witness as grace descends

I would agree that deathcore is essentially the pop sub genre of metal, but I've always been able to enjoy it. It's not the greatest music you'll find in metal, but it's still good when you find the right bands. Suffocation is definitely more death metal than core. Their riffing is borderline thrash.

guys,no reason to criticize what the band's doing now, as for the modern sound etc, all bands grow and have new sounds, for the ones crying about the old suffocation or old sound/style.. THAT'S WHY THOSE ALBUMS WERE MADE so you can listen to them when you're wanting the older sound! just enjoy the damn new tracks or put in the old shit.

Glad you enjoyed it, ever heard septic fleshes old material (1991-1997(ish) I think you'll like it A lot if you haven't heard any, it's got some slight symphonic elements but is very much death/doom (and gothic doom). It shares some similarities to suffo.

I know many metal fans in person and I myself am one. I'm not a fan of deathcore, metalcore, nu metal, glam metal or even some forms of doom (although I love the genre as a whole TO DEATH.) but my brother was A big fan of deathcore and you learn when you see people in person who enjoy both deathcore and other forms of metal that you just need to accept it. Most metalheads who actually get out there and go to shows realize this.

and the vocals.... and the drumming.... and anything shred of technical BRUTAL death metal they had left. It's you're opinion that they are at a level higher than everybody else, that's YOUR opinion. Even if they played their older work now it wouldn't be levels above the rest, some people may see it that way but no band is above another one. Maybe you'd like to explain in depth why this is better than millions of bands around the world?

Actually this new technical death metal style was a change to make their music more "listenable" they changed to fit the market. Everyone wants bands that sound like Job for a cowboy, the faceless, 7 horns 7 eyes, burning the masses and beneath the massacre and suffocation followed this trend. That doesn't mean this album WILL BE any worse, it's just a different style BUT you were wrong.
@NicolasSilvaVasault12 жыл бұрын

I like the way you explain your opinion over Suicide Silence, you're a great metalhead ! Over SS I just want to say that it's a great band, they introduce me to death metal so there are not only idiots on them video ^^
@7dayspking11 жыл бұрын
You have to understand that deathcore is ultimately a subgenre of death metal and metalcore.... just as technical death metal, brutal death metal and melodic death metal are and It's not fair to compare the diversity of an entire genre to a single sub genre. There are many different looks and sounds in all of these sub genres (Deathcore included.)
@VM045112 жыл бұрын
This accually sounds pretty old-school for a new death metal album. That gives me a good reason to look further into it, because most new metal albums had this newer distortion sound I don't really like.

I agree with you to a point, I only listen to Death metal because of the music although I happen to enjoy the community as well.... generally...
@7dayspking12 жыл бұрын
This is death metal a form of extreme metal music. In death metal bands use growling and guttural vocals with the rare shriek or scream. This is a very different vocal style to clean singing (and like singing there are many different techniques, sounds, styles and different levels of talent.)
@666Tard12 жыл бұрын
This album is fucking amazing!
@7dayspking12 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say that.... Deathcore actually tends to be A lot simpler and is aimed at being catchy rather than difficult. I'd say their record labels put A LOT OF THOUGHT into the riffs they play.
@7dayspking12 жыл бұрын
what people don't realize is that there is only a small amount of "big bands" in a genre. yet there is thousands of bands that don't get a look (people should look at a mass of bands to define what they can expect instead of looking at 5 big bands.) that's been my point the whole time.
@7dayspking12 жыл бұрын
I don't, I like a variety of metal genres but that doesn't mean I like every band or album or song in these genres. I'm not one of those people who listens to anything with a guitar and someone screaming into a mic going "oooh amazing" I like well performed deep traditional growling and guttural vocals (and for sining I like operatic AND IN KEY.) I like complex, catchy or inspiring guitar and drumming that fits or compliments the song.

I liked some of their "human waste" release then some of their stuff on pierced from within BUT I love the "depths of depravity" and "Synthetically Revived". Either way I think we can all agree that the song above us doesn't compare to that era of suffocation.
@BluntAnims12 жыл бұрын
I would disagree with him being a weak guitarist, but each to their own, I respect your opinions. Terrance and Guy are both great in my opinion, they never run out of material to write, and always deliver. The production of this album isn't as aggressive as usual, but that's more the production then the playing.

Did Suffocation or Mike Smith say why he left the band... again? Met the dude in Ft. Worth, such an awesome guy!
