A takedown in and of itself is nothing but a positional advantage- comparable to clinching a guy while he is the one with his back to the fence, while not landing any strikes. You're one of my favorite fighters in the UFC, and you definitely lost. You didn't get damaged at all cause Merab doesn't win on damage. He wins by hugging and being visually dominant positions. Kinda like how he just sits in that guillotine position and counts the clock down. That guillotine is NEVER tight. He just uses it for the points. I gave you the 3rd and 5th round. 1st round, I can't see it. Visually, those knees against the fence look hard, but I don't doubt that they're not. Same with the head strikes against the fence. I've rewatched the fight twice and I've always given Merab Rd 1. He landed 2 TDs in rd 1, controlled the grappling for 1:20, and outlanded you (whether they were damaging or not) by almost double 25/14. There just wasn't enough to go off of in the 1st round. Not enough action.

How is Tim a coach when he absolutely lacks the ability to criticise his fighters where they are lacking? It's wild to see him being so hypercritical of Merab when Merab controlled the fight, Sean got dog walked and overpowered. It is what it is. He could have had a finish, but he didn't. He could have knocked Merab out, but he didn't. Merab controlled him and walked him down at every opportunity, next time could have a completely different outcome, but be humble and accept that it was Merabs day that day, he was the better man, can't blame a guy for nut hugging when the rules allow grapple control, if it was stand up, Sean all day any day, but this ain't a stand up sport.
