He’s kinda clever but it’s so much noise. It just seems the Japanese concept of good drumming is fast chops and double bass rolls. The Japanese are Mega talented but like this gentleman possess zero musicality, stiff, clinical like he should have a stethoscope and a doctors robe on. No feel no groove no pocket. Even if you look at something similar to this style of playing like dream theatre there is still a sense of pocket and groove and it is still musical.

Or maybe your concept of "good" and "musicality" are just different from most Japanese people.

Gatack FG I hear you but dang the best musicians can play everything. Look at a guy like Gavin Harrison. He has all the double bass rolls in the world yet he does all things well in drumming. I just think the Japanese need to deepen their study in music. Again no shortage of skill and talent but there’s a gaping hole in their game.

Wouldn't be Kozo Suganuma if he lost that stiffness, but there are probably many other Japanese drummers that would give you a better sense of musicality if you look a little further.
