Thank you, I originally wrote it for The Rubettes who sang it first in 1974 which went to No1 in the UK.

Wait hold up I never realized this song was this old!!! There was a remix of this as an opening for A Little Snow Fairy Sugar, I'm kind of tearing up wow.

Yes, I originally wrote the song in 1974 and it was sang by The Rubettes which went to No1 in the UK. I heard that a version of the song had been used for a very popular animation on TV in Japan. I also produced and worked with Kenji Sawada

What is the truth of this original track? Seemingly, the singer on the original recording wasn't even in The Rubettes, and the actual singer of The Rubettes, Alan Williams, didn't sing or play a note on it?

Alan canta maravilhosamente !!

It was a demo track for Showaddywaddy (hence the "bop showaddywaddy" throughout the track, but they turned it down). The main voice on the track was Paul Da Vinci, who had signed with another record company, Penny Farthing Records, (after being told/believing that "Sugar Baby Love" would never be released), He went on to release "You're Baby Ain't Your Baby Anymore" (A great track), which had a bit more success in Europe than it did in the UK. The story goes that The Sparks were due to be on TOTP, but could not get a work permit in time, so the BBC rang around the record companies for something to fill their slot. A record company had a demo track, but no band, said yes, we got a group, and the BBC agreed. John Richardson (the Rubettes drummer) who actually played on the original recording helped gathered other session musicians he knew, and Alan Williams, (Who he had been on TOTP before with, as Baskin and Copperfield), and the Rubettes were born.

Paul De Vinci was the original singer on the recording in 1974, Paul also sang the B side track of Sugar Baby Love.
