Wow, this mascot went through several transformations with personality and look. Almost as if the marketers had no direction in how they really wanted to pitch the bear. Glad they settled on the cool smooth version with Golden Crisp. At least they were more consistent

I had a vague memory of the "super bear" and thought I dreamt it when they started running the sarcastic sugar bear. Apparently sarcastic, humming sugar bear actually was first before they tried the super hero angle in the early 80s.

Apparently, Post was capitalizing on the success of TV's "The Incredible Hulk" at the time marketing decided to change Sugar Bear into Super Bear. That was idea was unnecessary.

The sunburst box design ran from 1983-1984. The "solid gold" box design first came out in mid-1984, and at first was used to tie in with the Solid Gold TV series sweepstakes, where one could win a stereo system and a trip to Hollywood to go see the Solid Gold dancers! It was permanently adopted by the time the name of the cereal changed from Super Sugar Crisp to Super Golden Crisp.
