Hey Rudi, Love the fact that you went with lumber frame construction. Looks awesome. The size looks a little small for me, or maybe it's just deceiving in the video. Can't wait to get started on mine. Booked a portable sawmill to get my lumber cut this summer. Hopefully I can pour the pad before the frost. Great job. Congrats.

I built my sugar house 2 years back Mid winter. Crazy how much concrete was in winter plus a giant tarp and a salamander to keep the ground heated for a week prior and after. I lucked out and work for a material supplier so I studded 2x4s 16 on center a 20x30x10’ building with 6’ trusses 2’ soffits and sheathed it in with 7/16zip for under $1000

How did you attach your walls to the pad? Did you bolt the walls to the concrete? If so, did you put the bolts into the wet concrete or did you drill after the concrete set and then use epoxy to lock them in?

Good question. What I wonder is why most of these shacks don’t use stem walls down to frost. I know sheds often use pads only but that is because they are not technically heated. The evaporator changes that. I am debating if my sugar shack needs full on stem walls.

Simpson strong tie has an approved J bolt replacement call a Simpson Titan bolt. It’s a 1 to 1 replacement for J bolts. Just drill using a hammer drill and then bolt the Titan down.
