I breakdown 'Falls Apart' in this video... It was the last song written for the album, and I had fun doing this video, even though I should fire my stylist, which is myself, for not catching that fly away hair on the back of my head. After I taped this and watched it back I'm like..... "Ahhhh really...? Never even saw that.." (my monitor that I use is so small I can't really see what I look like, perhaps I will upgrade to a monitor that I can actually see, or get someone to assist one day - dreams, goals..)

My favorite Sugar Ray song. The bass is perfect. It always reminds me of an R.E.M. song like the the contrasting guitars and vocals. Always makes me recall summer of 1999 to the end of 1999. Didn’t have a another year like it.🎶👽🤙💮🎶

Hey Murphy. Really appreciate the analysis on this one. Love how the bass drives the chord progression under the constant high F. Such simple pop rock genius. Btw, the bass fill in the middle of the bridge has always been my favorite part of any sugar ray song. Perfect! Who else is going to google the lyrics now?

Thanks Kyle.. yeah I think I actually did the fill for this video (in the middle of the bridge) in a slightly different spot.. like a second or two later or earlier.. anyway thanks for digging on it. it's a special song to me.

I absolutely love this song! It's always been one of the most underrated songs in my opinion. My favorite parts of the song are the very beginning. That riff is killer. Stan on the cymbals (ting ting ting ting....) is perfection and adds that really cool element. Stan knows I love that part too. The bridge when you go up to A is also a favorite. It's just a amazing song for so many reason. Despite the video not really pertaining to the lyrics I really love it. Any video that shows vignettes of you guys separately is cool in my book. You with the tattoo, Stan pouring the wine, Rodney & Gretchen, Craig doing his thing and Mark's solo in that sweet suit. It's all just rad and moody but I honestly never got the end. The fountain with you guys just getting soaked and walking off....strange but I didn't hate it. 😉 Great song all around. Thanks for taking the time to do all these songs. Seriously a lot goes into doing them and I personally love it and appreciate it! 🤘🏻🎸

haha .. right.. the fountain at the end... what?? anyway it is a very nicely shot video. It looks stunning. I just thought it would have been UNREAL to attempt to show what was happening lyric wise and relate it.. but then again maybe that would have been forced and obvious? Thanks Deb

Man I love this song! My favorite song you guys did. That bass line on top of the guitar riff is killer. Mark's vocals, the lyrics, and the overall sound of it do such a good job of conveying emotion. Everything about it just works together perfectly.

This song was like the diamond in the rough of the album. So many of my favorite musical elements/tricks packaged together. Couldn’t agree more about the bass line moving under the static chord. Love it. Also the variation of the final verse, throwing in the iii and vi, very cool sounding. What always fascinated me most about this song was the layering of the vocals in the chorus. There seems to be a lot going on and it’s tricky to pick out. I get the “traditional” vocal harmony that follows the main melody, but there’s some kind of counter melody going on in there. Almost sounds like short hits on the F like “go, run” or “run, run” before harmonizing the last line. Gives the song a real floaty kinda feel. Side note: Sugar Ray will always be one of my top 5 bands for summertime. Idk why, but you guys always remind me of beaches and pools. Love it👍

I've always latched on to bass lines and this one cuts right through me (in a wonderful way; didn't mean to relate to the lyrics heh). In sterotypical teenage girl fashion, I took these lyrics too much to heart. I was 18 and this song hit right around the time I started college. I was peak anxiety (though I didn't know it at the time) and I spent too many times with this song on repeat and my head in my hands. Years later, this song is so dang cathartic and beautiful. I didn't know how to articulate my anxiety at the time other than to say, "This song is ME!" Thank you thank you thank you for this song!

Tara you are welcome welcome welcome.. I agree with you. This song just has a good vibe to it, and especially with the lyrical content, it’s powerful to me.. I wish we could have kept in writing about stuff like this.. I think people hunger for lyrical depth.. and you don’t have to talk about saving the world, just about how you feel when things aren’t going well.. and in that way.. you sorta feel better.. and you also connect with others... thanks for your comment !

New appreciation for this song after watching the video. Its so easy to get caught up listening to Mark or following the guitar riff that you miss the color your bass is adding to the overall song.

When you said that this song represented feeling alone and not fitting in, it struck a chord with me. As someone with a rare brain condition that caused me to have a physical handicap as well as being on the autism spectrum, there are times where I feel like I’m the only one in this world who does certain things, and no one will ever relate to me. This has led me to mask things about me. It’s led me to mask my emotions, it’s led me to mask certain things about my physical handicap, because I felt like if I did things that may benefit me due to my handicap, well, then I’m not normal. I don’t mean to get sentimental, that’s something I also mask about myself. I don’t always allow myself the freedom to just feel unpleasant emotions, or just be my true self because society says you need to do it this way. I have come far in my healing though. I have more faith, self belief and self confidence. I just need to let go of limiting myself, being a perfectionist, and just allow myself the room to breathe. I put such unrealistic expectations on myself. Thanks so much for your content.

Yes! The opening of 'Answer the Phone' and 'Falls Apart' are addicting. I wish there were just instrumental releases. I like hearing about the behind the scenes creation of a song. Also I think you'd get more views if you did tutorials or talked about getting into the music biz. People want to know what happened to Sugar Ray? Thoughts?

The demo I have is an instrumental. I'll post it soon. Glad you like hearing about behind the scenes of a song.. I like it too. To be honest I'm not worried about the view counts or the likes or anything at this point. (I am a fan of Gary V and how he sees the world and what you should focus on content wise.. Heard of him? Check him out. Gary Vee (Vaynerchuck) and beware the cuss words..lol I love him) I started this less than a month ago, so it will take a little time.. and yeah, I have tutorials and tips and other cool things planned.. This was just the kick off and a marathon to see if I could actually get through all 80 songs.. It's a lot.
