So many wonderful tips on how to make sure our little guys stay healthy and hydrated!! Thank you! We've had our two males for a little over a week now and I've been keeping an eye on how much of their water they've been drinking and it doesn't appear to be much these past few days.. so I think we will start working in a few of the methods you showed, just to make sure we're on top of it! In moderation of course! Thanks again, this was very informative.

Hi there! Is it alright to give honey water as a daily treat to avoid dehydration? And if so how much do you recommend per glider? I plan on getting my first two next Christmas and think this idea is awesome in preventing it from happening
@sugargliderdiaries3 жыл бұрын
A drop of two of honey in their water is a great way to encourage drinking a few times a week. You have to make the decision for yourself if you are ok with the extra sugar for an every day thing. You will get opinions on both sides. Personally I think a couple days a week with honey is totally fine!

Hi! LOVE your vids. Used them for research before getting my first 2 shuggies. The just arrived 3 days ago and are about 3-4 months old. I don’t think they know how to use a water bottle yet and have had to use a shallow bowl and syringe to give them water. Any suggestions on how to teach them on how to use a water bottle? I appreciate your time and - again - LOVE your videos!!

I would just continue to offer it as well as an open water source. You could also try a water silo.

For this clip(8:21 - 8:33), when you say that's as slow as you would let it get, does that mean she is dehydrated, or does it normally go that slow? And if she is dehydrated, how fast would a hydrated sugar gliders skin pop back? I'm so confused....
@sugargliderdiaries4 жыл бұрын
If her skin was retracting any slower than that I would consider her dehydrated. That is just my personal opinion and every glider is different.

I have a question so my sugar gliders really stink and I have done things to change that but can I bathe them this one time I wouldn’t do it anymore than this one time because when they were given to me it was obvious that they had sat in pee and for that reason they smell is it safe to wash them with baby soap and then dry them completely???? Thank you for your help
@brim98403 жыл бұрын
It's safe to wipe them down with warm water and dawn dish soap, make sure they dry completely and use a very small amount of warm water!
@emilysillett27243 жыл бұрын
@@brim9840 ok thank you so much just kind of wet my hand and put it on them like scoop a little bit of water and put it on them so there like damp not wet ?
@sugargliderdiaries3 жыл бұрын
You could possibly use an non scented baby wipe. That would be safer that soap and waypoint my opinion. If they get wet do not use a hair dryer to dry. Keep them very warm and only cleats small area at a time.
@emilysillett27243 жыл бұрын
@@sugargliderdiaries ok thank ya I would never use a hair dryer on them

ok so my sugar gliders drink all the time but there skin still slowly comes down '
@sugargliderdiaries4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't worry too much but giving liquid treats and checking water bottles wouldn't hurt! I would just check regularly to see what is "normal" for them so that is it is retracting slower than normal you can see early :)

@sugargliderdiaries3 жыл бұрын
A small amount of honey and/or apple juice with water would probably encourage drinking. Just don’t put the juice or honey in your water bottle or silos as that can promote mold. 😘

I am not sure what you mean. This video is all about how to avoid dehydration not treat it really. There is no way to know how long a treatment would take without knowing the severity and what treatment you are using. I am not a vet, so if you have concerns I would contact an exotic vet.
