This is how HIP HOP got its name. People would come into the record shop and say they wanted that song with Hip and Hop in it.... soon, it was Hip Hop. One song named the whole genre. Respect to the LEGENDS!
@duartehm2 жыл бұрын
Actually this song and phrase was inspired from grand Master flash when he was at a party one time where he told this man, that was in the military, and was leaving the party " you gona wake up early tomorrow and march the next day and gona recite the heyp the hapt the heyp the hayp" something like that is how the story goes
@tripical7 ай бұрын
“hip-hop” was a phrase used back in the 17th century to indicate a hopping rhythm or motion.
@j.thomas71287 ай бұрын
@@tripical 17th century..... motion of a ship at sea used by sailors. There was no connotation of music in the earlier used phraseology. In the 1920's the phrase made a comeback again when referring to dancing or knocking boots, but again it wasn't used in relation to a genre of music. It was never in widespread use as a descriptor of a musical genre until after Sugarhill Gang's song became popular. Read what Grandmaster Flash has to say about the origins of the term hip-hop and how they teased their "army" friend with it. The articles that try to dismiss the relevance of Sugarhill Gang in creating a genre of music now referred to as hip-hop all have another and the same mistake repeated in all of them. They all say that Rappers Delight was released in 1980, but really it was 1979. If they made such a glaring mistake about something so simple, then I highly doubt their integrity as to all the other assumptions they made. Read what DJ Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash, and Afrika Bambaata say about it. Even they credit Sugarhill Gang. Just saying....

Big Bank Hank, a member of the pioneering hip-hop group the Sugarhill Gang, has died, according to Aree Booker, a funeral director with Eternity Funeral Services in Englewood, New Jersey. He was 57. Booker didn't specify the cause of death, but said the rapper died Tuesday and that his funeral home would handle the services. Big Bank Hank, whose real name was Henry Jackson, was a part of the Sugarhill Gang in 1979 when the band had hip-hop's first hit with "Rapper's Delight." It is one of the most recognized and popular rap songs of all time... RIP

yeah it doesn't seem like you listened to the lyrics at all. if anything you could argue they're more subtle the difference is the songs sound much better and the rapping is a lot more fresh and doesn't need "nigga" this and "nigga" that after every few words.
