Making Saber androgynous (Sex unknown in data book, but implied from the story to be male with feminine appearance) actually makes a lot of sense for anyone familiar with his legends. One of Saber's legends had him crossdressing in order to kill a chieftan, so this feminine appearance ties in well with that.

​@@gamers-pj1hxI don't think Saber in Samurai Remnant is a female. Considering the real life legend and lore of Yamato Takeru, Saber is just a really feminine looking boy. This is perobably one of the rare cases where the MC Saber class servant based on male historical figure isn't a straight up genderbent and is left out as androgynous so player can intrepet it whatever they want.

This inner battle between the two gains far more weight in the Bad Ending, as it meant Saber's former life and Iori's current path were the exact same, betraying his expectations for a new older-brother figure and forcing him to face his past demons head on one more time...

@@Noctis_LC Iori is a passable Mage at this point in addition to his skill as a swordsman, and Servants can be harmed by magic. The fact that Iori also happens to be Saber's Master likely also plays a very big part in it. Plus, Saber was in a heavily drained state at this moment, so his resistance to damage was likely reduced as a result. Reinforcement magecraft is, IIRC, one of the most basic forms of magecraft, and this can help to explain why a normal human like Iori can fare as well as he does even against a Servant. Just look at Caster's Master, Souichiro, in the original Fate/Stay Night story, his skill with Reinforcement magecraft made him a legitimate threat even to Servants, even while Souichiro himself was unarmed.

@@gamester512 Except he didn’t even need to use magic to hurt Saber or his sword for that matter, so I don’t know what kind of point you’re trying to make by explaining all that logic about him being a great mage. Also about Caster’s Master Souchiro from FSN, I’m afraid you’re dead wrong about that. It’s true he was an excellent martial artist but he had zero skills in using magic, they even literally stated he had no magic circuits. The enhance reinforcement to his body was performed on him by his Servant Caster.

Spoiler for all who want to know: Saber's true name is Yamato Takeru, legendary hero and conqueror of Japan, who lived in late 1st-early 2nd centuries. Regarded as a peerless warrior, fierce and mighty warrior, he led countless campaigns across Japan and was deified by the time he was supposedly 31 years old, after battling gods, warriors and even his own older brother.

I’m actually not surprised that Type Moon decided to make Yamato female since they’ve done it before with Altaria Pendragon aka King Arthur and some other historical and mythological beings as well. A gender swap though doesn’t take away the impact they made on the world.

Yamato Takeru. A legendary hero & conqueror from ancient Japan who was deified (basically, worshiped as a God, much like with Guan Yu in RotTK era China, though IIRC, Guan Yu wasn't deified until after his death) while he was still alive. His ability to control water is likely a reference to the original owner of his sword, the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi (Grass-Cutter Sword), that "original owner" being Susano'O, Shinto God of the Sea and Storms, and the brother of Amaterasu (Goddess of the Sun) and Tsukuyomi (God of the Moon). Susano'O obtained the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi after he slayed the Yamata-no-Orochi (this is also why Saber fares so well and has a Noble Phantasm that can so readily counter Assassin's snakes, the sword is directly connected to Susano'O slaying the Yamata-no-Orochi).

The sheer number of genderswaps in Fate make me wonder why it isn't the rule instead of the outlier that women go to war as soldiers instead of men. I mean, women should be the more physically developed gender considering the incredible volume of them being warriors. Men should be the ones happily serving breakfast in bed and taking care of the kids.

Yamato Takeru looked female in lore but was actually male. They're actually being pretty accurate for once. They probably only still kept it ambiguous, so that people like you can still justify it to yourselves that it's okay to have em as your, "waifu." But I think for the most part, these two are like brothers.
