I'm from the Netherlands: and so is Suit Supply. The "Jort" line is named after and inspired by Jort Kelder; who is a well known journalist: presenter of historical programs and etiquette authority in the Netherlands. He's credited with bringing the Italian sartorial tradition to the Netherlands in the late 1990's (which beforehand relied heavily on the German school of tailoring). This explains the lack of canvas and shoulder dimples of the Jort line.
@PhilmFreak3 жыл бұрын
Really appreciate this review! I'm not sure that it's entirely fair to say that SuitSupply isn't worth it overall. Both Raphael and Preston seem to have body types that are a more difficult fit regardless of the store. I have 2 suits from SuitSupply, and I think that they're totally worth it with the in-store alterations; however, I totally see how they might not be worth it for anyone who can't get a good-enough fit. Still love the review and keep up the great work!

This video is just bad. Suit Supply offers "Custom Made" to match every body type and has a lot of value for the price. There is no comparable brand which offers the same quality in the same pricing range.
@DennisxDaring2 жыл бұрын
@@LiquidIEx No it is a good video - They are an EXTREMELY knowledgeable client and that is not the demo of SS. Most people that shop from SS don't know anything about suits and are recent graduates looking for something different from men's warehouse. I was the number 2 seller in the world at SS and handled the MTM in Soho NY. If they came in when I worked there I would have been the one to work with them, as I was the most knowledgeable but I truly would have turned them away because I know I wouldn't have been able to live up to their expectations. HOWEVER, since SS is so big some sales associates would have just made the sale walked away because the thing they get wrong in the video is they can not return the suit once it is altered. Great video though and respect them.

@@DennisxDaring Excellent point - our gentlemen hosts are not the market segment this enterprise aims for. @chedelirio69842 жыл бұрын
Good comment Philip about one thing I enjoy with our hosts -- the various gentlemen are not "model" types and that, first, reminds us we do not need to be models to look good, and second, brings up any limitations of the product line styles and fit. TBF this type of business model just cannot function providing a continuum of every possible conceivable variation -- Suitsupply apparently does quite well for the vast majority of people but outliers are, well, outliers.

I worked in mens wear and the collar pleat is a removal option for when a guys shoulder blades are protruding from his back so much that it bunches the fabric between his shoulders making it look like he has pleats under his collar. You remove fabric down the center seam but dont touch the collar to flatten the back. Good for football players and body builders.

In my opinion, Suitsupply is a truly outstanding brand even in comparison to traditional brands like Burberry. I have blazers from both brands and really like the Suitsupply one as much, or maybe even more than the one from Burberry. I see your argument with the fit issues, and I also see that I can't really relate to that, because I have a more slim and athletic figure. On the other hand I thing that for many men, suitsupply is a great brand overall. Update: Just tested Zegna blazer and while the fit was a little better on me, the fabric of the Suitsupply is a little better in my opinion. I would probably give a slight notch to the Zegna jacket, but I still do enjoy the Suitsupply blazer.

I am from the Netherlands and I have purchased several suits from Suitsupply. Obviously always in store as this allowed proper fitting. My arms are a tad long, but customizing can be done quite easily. You can tell the difference between a low-cost suit and a high-end suit easily. I like to wear suspenders, ideally with buttons, which caused me to have their tailor sew in a few buttons for suspenders into a new suit. Don't do that. The buttons will be fine, but they will destroy the waistband of the trousers. The Jort collection by the way is named after a famous classy Dutch TV Host called Jort Kelder. He is actually seen in this video, as the man inspecting the sewing hall (with the suspenders, a distinctive style element he embraces). Thanks for the vid.

Firstly I loved the video - particular shout outs to the editing and Raphael's outfit breakdown. I've shopped with Suit Supply before (three off-the-racksuits, one pair of chinos, one pair smart wool trousers). Here are my thoughts: Suits: As you guys eluded to, Suit Supply only cater to a particular body type. Fortunately, I fit that mold (or at least did pre pandemic!). So the fit was great with only trouser length and tapering adjustments needed. I found the quality of the suit to be really good. Much better than TM Lewin or Charles Tyrwhitt where I used to shop before. I liked the in-store tailoring element. I found it odd that you couldn't mix and match trousers and jackets sizes like you can at other stores. Smart trousers: Great, no complaints. Fit with no adjustments needed. Chinos: Fit was fine but quality was really poor. Fabric felt plasticy and lots of threads coming loose after a few wears. So my personal review is mixed. If you fit their body profile then I think the suits are good quality for the price. But that's a big if! BD

I like this review, really put them to the test. I think Preston's suit from SS looks good. Also likeable material. For the price, that's a good deal. Raphael needed more room in arms near shoulders, but their sizes required a suit by Omar the tent maker to do that, so the custom route would have actually been very interesting to see, could've been smashing. I test garments by how I feel when I take them off. If it's a relief, I get rid of them, if not, I keep them. I judge sleeves and jacket length by weather, if it's cold, they should be heavier material, and a bit longer, within reason, for me to feel warmer, if warm weather, they can be lighter weight and shorter and thus more comfortable. My Brooks Brothers full zip ribbed cotton sweater works 3 seasons, since it's about a half inch longer waist and sleeves, which seals out the cold a bit better, can actually feel it, than Polo, which I wear in warmer weather. Polo has the exact fit, looks great, but Brooks captured the comfort by just adding half an inch in both lengths. It's been said a Brooks Brothers shirt fits nobody, but Brooks is sometimes smarter than they look, evidently.

I’m really digging Preston’s tie & knot in this video. That green is amazing 👌🏽

Hey so just a quick hottake; I LOVE the idea of a more funny, light hearted video with outtakes. Although I think they hit maybe a bit too often. Well, maybe not too much, but too concentrated in short bursts. I like the direction, just not the execution. But I’d definitely say keep improving on the concept!

I've always wanted to do Suitsupply, but at the price point, Indochino gives me more customization and fits be better as made to measure.

You can easily find their same suits on poshmark for $200 with tag if you know your size

Great video, gents. I’ve been waiting for your Suitsupply review for years now and I’m liking this format you’ve adopted: informative, with the breaks for humor to keep things dynamic. 👍🏽

Well, thanks for the review. Two bodytypes that differ very much and are certainly not average. Iam a very regular customer of Suitsupply and have almost no big problems to fit in as good as possible in non-bespoke garments. Also iam very satisfied with their website, and offerings and possibilities. I have an athletic build, 1.86 mtr and around 77-80 kgs.

Using the "Custom Made from Scratch" option in conjunction with a shop visit and an experienced salesperson - needs to be really knowledgeable, which is quite rare - results in the best possible value for money. You are literally getting a product that has absolutely nothing to do with what Suitsupply's OTR has to offer, especially in terms of the trousers, with some trial and error, you can achieve the maximum possible non-bespoke fit. Also things like a higher armhole and some physical asymmetries are no problem.

Agreed, "made to measure" works great, at least in Europe, they get a tailor who basically builds a suit for you, starting from one of their fits, but changing basically everything.

Preston is 5'10" 125 lbs? Man is so light he probably needs weighted shoes to avoid floating away 😂

Great video, very informative. I've been hesitating a lot with SuitSupply and you finally showed me I made the right decision. I wouldn't buy a suit with such a bad collar gap, not for that amount of money. I am mystified how modern jackets never seem to fit well in the collar. I have 10-15 years old inexpensive jackets that show ZERO collar gap when I move, even to fairly extreme positions. I guess it has to be with sleeve and back fullness, as you say.

Excellent video as usual. Detailed, unbiased, and sincere...couldn't ask for more. Would love to see the Gentleman's Gazette review Hockerty and Spier & Mackay, particularly their in-house custom shoes. Thanks again for all that you guys do. Cheers!

As a guy who's apparently much slimmer than most clothes manufacturers expect, I really appreciate you talking about the challenges and solutions for fitting non standard body types. I did spit out my tea when Preston said he was 44 kg though!
