Actually, RMAF don't want the SU-30MKM due to bad experience with Russian after sale service with their MIGs. They prefer a Super Hornet. But Malaysian Government prefer SU-30MKM due to Russia more flexible payment options, and their offer of sending one Malaysian astronaut to ISS. In the end, They compromise. RMAF will accept the SU-30MKM but RMAF want many of the russian made avionics on board to be exchange with the South African and French one. Currently, there's the same battle being fought between Royal Malaysian Navy and the Malaysian government over their Gowind class ship weapon. RMN prefer Raytheon ESSM, Konsberg NSM and Millenium CIWS. But Malaysian gov prefer MICA VLS and the Exocet Block 3 and no dedicated CIWS.

well i guess each choice has it compromise, as you say malaysia only had bad experience with mig not with sukhoi's though, both have different doctrine in building aircraft, selling them, after service and so on, although russian lack of spare part are pretty famous problem, and if you ask me? i prefer malaysia buy east european or eastern armament rather than those jew western corporate toy trying to sell us any day on the week ( if i may, i would rather have that rafale, because they're awesome, and have top notch European integration system,but sukhoi's not bad either)

Well l hopes Malaysia Govt come to their sense leave it to the Naval authorities to make the decision regarding weapon system for their Gowind LCS. Look at it at long terms benefits. It may cost a bit more but Malaysia need the best weapon system to ensured their deterrence defence doctrine works. Let the experts do their work.

Since Singapore is a small island, it is highly vulnerable for the airfields to operate well in wartime. Should the airfield be shelled by Long range artillery or bombed, the American planes tend to perform poorly under those circumstances as the airfield must remain slick and span with almost no debris to operate American fighter planes. American planes are superior is every sense except probably close range gun combat but apart from that, they are rolls royces of the sky. Russians planes on the other hand are very durable under wartime conditions being able to take off and land on poorly maintained or damaged airfield runways. They are work horses capable of re arming in a battle zone and taking off to fight with no problems at all. For Singapore it is imperative to own some Russian fighter jets if suchlike scenario occurs as due to limited size and short range from enemy fire, the American jets could be rendered useless once the airfield is bombed out

+CDR472 Buying from Russia has good and bad. I highly rate the Su30 as it is comparable to the F15E. Thrust vectoring is going to make it much more agile than the F15 in a dogfight. But the question is, will it get into a dogfight by that point? Secondly, F22 is a superior plane to SU30 because of her specialist role as an air superiority fighter whereas the Su30 is a multirole fighter like the F15E. F22 with her stealth features will detect the SU30 or F15s way before they can detect the F22. F15E strike eagles are by far the most combat proven with the best thrust and air climb in the world. Its AMRAAMS and avionics suite probably is the very best including ECU jamming etc.... However the SU30 is very much comparable but it has not yet been tested in battle. Either way, until a situation occurs, no one can tell who will win. The only proof is historical combat performance. But even that i not an indicator of success. Regarding PAK T50, its not likely any importing nation apart from India and Russia will be using that plane. Firstly, the best Russian equipment are always strictly for Russia, so other nations don't show it to NATO. Secondly, Russia has not even added her to her flight inventory, so Malaysia won't be getting the T50 that soon, not even in 10 years. Regarding F35, my nation Singapore is a sucker if she were to buy it as the F35 is a super costly plane. There are many doubts about the capabilities but there is still potential in the advanced technological suite it has. However with twin engined stealth planes rolled out by China and Russia, the F35 could be too costly to procure as they may be phased out faster than expected and with such costs involved, may prove to be very expensive.

+CDR472 I didn't underestimate. F22 can be detected. Only how far away can it be detected? If the F22 detects you first, you're still going to be the one to react to incoming AAMs. Hence, the F22 with her stealth can remain hidden longer than any plane in the world. However if the T50 is in service, now that will put it on par with F22, no one knows who will detect whom first. Su30 is a remarkable plane like the F15E. Avionics will play a very important part in the battle of technologies

what can Malaysia do with just 18 su30s and 10 mig29s (total 55 fighters) when Singapore has 40 f15sg and 62 f16s and counting the 49 f5s? Even if your su30 or new Russian planes come in, they will still be outnumbered 2:1 at least. Even if rmaf have the best planes in the world, they would still have their asses kicked badly. What a joke by that Malaysian guy about their air force being "so capable"
