This song was very popular in the U.S. when I was a university student, and I always liked it very much. My best friend, Akira, explained the meaning of the lyrics to me, so I appreciate its romantic sentimentality. You sing it beautifully; thank you for sharing your talent with us. It's good to see that young people in Japan still appreciate this song after more than 50 years. (My friend Akira is terminally ill, with little time left on this earth, and although this song is about a young man's lost love, I redirect its meaning to signify my lifelong friendship with him, so sometimes I, too, walk looking up so that tears don't fall).

A few days ago I asked my google home to play Suteki Da Ne from Final Fantasy X, but it somehow misheard me and instead started blasting Sukiyaki by Kyu Sakamoto. I was initially annoyed, but soon realized that it's actually a great song and have been listening to it heavily since then. I searched for it on KZbin yesterday and came across this beautiful cover! I don't usually bother with commenting on videos, but I found your rendition of the song to be an uplifting rarity during these stressful and uncertain times... The power of music! I was an 8 yr old American boy when this song was released in America in 1961. Kyu Sakamoto's song was purely magical. I can't help but cry when I hear it. You made me cry with your cover version. It's a timeless song. Thank you, Jeff I am old now. But that song has been a comfort in my life for56 years. It was the first song that had symbols of peace and joy after the horrible WW2.

@@geoffhopwood1644 I learned Sukiyaki off the AM radio in 1962 when it Sakamoto-san first recorded it. He would have been proud of your cover of his great song. You are way too young to remember, but I am a 72 yr young American dude who was born in September, 1947. This song was released just 17 years after the end of WWII. I am sure that at the time, Hiroshima and Nagasaki were still fresh in the minds of the people of both our countries. I would like to apologise for what the US government did. Violence is a continuation of the problem; it's NEVER the answer!!!
