Nothing worked until I realized that 90% of them had low/normal porosity hair. They’re moisturizing routines that last them 4 days did nothing for my high porosity hair. Moisturizing is KEY and their little routines didn’t work for me. It wasn’t until I started watching people who had my porosity that my hair started showing actual results. My unpopular opinions: Most hair gurus have 0 expertise about hair, and shouldn't be giving out general advice. They are good at fear mongering though. Coconut oil can go take a dive off a cliff, and take the curly girl method with it in the fall. Can't stand most styling products. The purity police is telling people not to use heat tools etc while stuffing their hair with products and not using strong enough shampoos to wash them out. Parabens are fine but due to fear mongering, they're often replaced with other preservatives, like MI, which is very allergenic (unlike parabens).

Antrelise Gantt Ita a societal and cultural thing. It was only in 2016 when they got rid of the LAW that made natural hair illegal. Type 4 hair children r told by their parents that their hair is bad, got my first perm when I was 6. The natural hair movement was meant to reclaim our hair mostly for type 4 but on Instagram all we see is the type 3 gals.
@Lovelyone14 жыл бұрын
E Olabode I get it. I know that I grew up with “3C” hair, but I also got a perm in 5th grade. My mom constantly complained about my hair-it was too soft, it wouldn’t do anything, what’s the point of trying with your hair when it’s going to be a mess as soon as we walk outside, etc....(and that continued even after I got a perm LOL!). In fact, when I was 24 (1’m 46 now 😬), I read an article saying that you should ask your mom about your natural hair to see if you had the “right hair type” to go natural (yeah-it was the early 90s and most of us were still brainwashed). Anyway, my mom told me no and that my hair wasn’t fit to be natural. It would be another 13 years before I revisited the situation. I’m not down playing the plight of my type 4 sistas because I truly get it, but I had real issues with my hair my whole life and didn’t come to terms until I was 37 (and I didn’t even go natural by choice even then).
@eepouabain19604 жыл бұрын
Antrelise Gantt Which just further proves it’s not women’s fault. Type 4 gals were taught to aspire to have straight hair and perm and in this new movement we are being told to embrace our natural hair while at the same time the main faces of the natural movement don’t look like us. Which is why we aspire to have looser curls now. It’s even worse when type 3 girls claim to have type 4 and trick us into buying products to achieve a “curl definition” that isn’t “natural” at all. However it’s important to know that all naturals r beautiful and deserve a safe space, Urs is a bit bigger than ours that’s all

I know right! There's always that perception! But the thing is also that most of the time, we black girls don't moisturize properly. And, no this is not, "this is our fault, we should have moisturized our hair" but it's just that it's our reality. I'm from Haiti and the only thing my mom knew was Castor oil and pomade...and my hair was dry af. My friends (white, black, you name it) were always like, "Why don't you let your hair down, you have super long hair." I would say that my hair gets dry fast, but really, I just didn't know how to moisturize. But now I know how to moisturize and my hair is beautiful periodt😂👌

Frizz isn't so bad. Everywhere I go, zero frizz, anti frizz blah blah blah. I have kinky 3c/4a hair, that's frizzy. Tbh, when I saw girls with silky 3c/4a hair I felt I was doing sth wrong and i felt unhappy with my hair but I've learnt to embrace it rather than empty an 18oz of eco styler trying to define/clump/defrizz some curls Length isn't all in all but health. Health will give you the length you want. You'll see some sisters holding onto 5" raggedy ends so they brag how they are at BSL or WL. Like sis cut that shit off.

Puffs actually last pretty long because it’s solely moisture focused and theres less product build up.
@blerdyveetv4 жыл бұрын
I know I'm late but i think you missed her point. Not everyone can achieve easily defined curls, or should I say when they do it doesn't look "silky" and "shiny" like they expected. And thats okay, but sadly the natural hair community is obsessed with definition specifically having 3c, 4a looking curls when we should just be working with what we have and trying to achieve healthy moisturized hair.
@denyshadials57024 жыл бұрын
Evee Bear Did we really miss her point tho? Or do most women with her hair type just not understand what a wash n go actually is? Because it’s definitely not about ‘silky shiny 3c/4a curls’. It’s not like a perm rod set where if everyone picks the same size roller and ends up with the same looking curl. A wash n go is the slightly more defined version of your shrunken Afro. It doesn’t change the size of your curl/coil or eliminate all of your frizz. *So even if we use the same technique and products, we’re not all going to have the same looking curl-it’s impossible.* I agree with about one thing though. Not enough women with her hair type have enough confidence in it to wear it in a wash n go. They’re too busy trying to make it look looser, shinier, and longer. That’s why they stick to to twist outs and stretched styles. They don’t like their shrunken Fro. The only real mistake she made in that video is spending too much time and product trying to make it look like something it’s not. And then got upset about her own Fro.

I agree with the grease thing. I figure my hair was at its healthiest as a child and my grandma used grease and hair lotion in my hair, and this was before my mom relaxed it. So I went back to the basics now that I’m natural again. Idk if this is an unpopular opinion but parents should not be able to make decisions for little girls when it comes to relaxing their hair at such a young age. My mom relaxed my hair bc she didn’t want to do it anymore. So all she did was damage it and let it break off 😪

I'm 13 and I want to go natural. My sister is natural, because her hair is "easier" to care for because she has 3b hair and I have 4b or 4c hair. My mom said it was too hard and time consuming so she permed it. I've just decided to wait until I go off to college because that's the only way I can get natural hair. It's like no one supports me on wanting to embrace my hair. They don't care what I want with my hair, they just care about what makes their life easier. I just want long hair. And I can't get that when my hair won't grow past my collar bone. It's healthy, but won't grow. I have nothing against relaxers, I just don't want it.
