When you read about this event, you realise how profoundly skilled Sully was. There is no way that most people on that plane should have survived, and the losses could have been far worse. He landed a full passenger jet a river in the middle of New York in winter...and there were no casualties. Extraordinary.
@danielhaire66773 жыл бұрын
As the board at the end put it when they factored in everything, only Sully stood out as variable X. Replace him with anyone else, and this landing failed. And Sully, in humility, claimed it was everyone that day who pulled a miracle, not just him.

Sully himself would probably say that anyone with his level of training could have done it. I don’t underestimate any of these frosty ex-Air Force guys, but it’s probably somewhere in the middle between “miracle” and “doable with enough skill”. Even Sully would likely fail this landing on many if not most attempts, and at least damage the plane enough that it sinks faster and some people don’t make it. But I think the fact that he did it first try means it’s by definition very unlikely to be a near-impossible landing. But only if you have tens of thousands of hours under your belt and a remarkably cool head.

The Evacuation of New York City during 9/11 was the largest amphibious operation in Human History. It was over three times the size of D-Day, one and a half times the size of the Miracle of Dunkirk, and took only nine hours to completely evacuate over half a million people from the island under attack. Never doubt the ability of the naval forces of New York. Their history is from America's birth at the age of sail, their honor and ability beyond reproach.

Considering New York's history with plane crashes in the 21st century I can't imagine how emotionally determined to help those people were. I mean that city was attacked by hijackers who crashed planes with passengers in them to kill even more people. When the Towers went down, and nobody knew what had happened yet, the area was full of smoke and debris, and people were running for their lives. They got trapped by barricades, nobody knew what was happening, and it was chaos. The ferries and a zillion small, private boats from Jersey headed to the scene and loaded people up, taking them to safety. Those captains had no idea what they were heading into, but went anyway. While Sully is obvious an amazing pilot, the most underrated people to also get credit are the Passangers. 99% of you do not know this but crowds that panic are MORE dangerous than fires, crashes, sinking, etc. Aeroflot Flight 1492 caught fire on the runway and 41 burned to death because they couldn't get out while they had to wait for passengers who wasting time and garbed their overhead luggage, its one of the most pathetic and disgusting evacuation moments ever recorded. The Station Nightclub fire where EVERYONE could have easily survived if they stayed calm was another sad moment where the bodies of escaping victims clogged the door and 100 people burned to death Point is, Sully and the Crew did an amazing job, BUT they are trained for this! The passengers preformed admirably not panicking or causing anyone to get injured. They stayed calm, and BRAVO to them for keeping cool heads just like their crew.

The most important hero not mentioned was the AIRBUS plane and all the european engineers that made an airplane that can dive into a river without even losing a wheel nut.

It lost an engine. They had to go looking for the thing before they could do the investigation. (Made more difficult by the fact that the Hudson is a river with a current) They thought it stayed together, but it didn't, and understandably! (No, I don't care if it's spelled correctly) The damned thing landed on water. It's good it only lost an engine rather than the whole wing.

@@Scorpioncactusflower But it didn't lose a wheel nut. That is important!

Best scene in the whole movie? '155 155? 155. *relieved sigh*' EVERYONE got out. Whatever else happens that is a win. Also, a note? Last person off the plane: His name was Sully. RESPECT!

I have watched this video before but what really fascinated me was the reaction time, that these ferrys from Wall Street, or lower MANHATTAN to Staten Island reacted quickly and calmly, with no panic, because if you are in the water, you run the risk of hypothemica ,or quickly freezing, or bringing your body temperature drastically very low in a short amount of time just like when I was watching TV, that a major storm just hit FLORIDA, headed for GEORGIA, and South Carolina, headed up the East coast, and it's a category 1,but that's not that bad, unless it hits all the Southern states, towards Mexico.

In addition to Sully's incredible skill set (USAF pilot, Award winning Glider Pilot, flight instructor) another factor was the timing and the location of where & when the plane came to a stop! A Ferry had just completed practicing a water rescue and was still stowing the gear Another Ferry had just unloaded All of it's passengers and had yet to take on a single new passenger giving it more room than any other Ferry to rescue the plane's passengers!

And yet, only like 5 people even grabbed them. Everyone else is just chilling on the wings, vestless.

I am grateful that in times of crisis and tragedy we come together as a nation and as humans. But I wish we could come together and be more kind and peaceful regularly and not just in situations like this. Politics, need to not be far left or far right. Meeting halfway is the only way to heal this nation. Because there is a cold civil war going on.

The water rescue response was so natural too. Those boat pilots remembered seven years before, when some of them helped with the largest maritime rescue in history, and they were like, "We got this. This is a piece of cake compared to the evacuation of lower Manhattan."
@timengineman2nd714 Жыл бұрын
Imagine what the passengers felt like, while climbing out of the plane and hearing several boats repeatedly sounding 5 shorts, and every time they sound their horns it is noticeably closer! Looking towards the sound and seeing the Professional crew rigging their boat for rescue and that their boat "has a bone in her teeth" as she closes rapidly.....
