Amazing version of the Grateful Dead. I love her velvet voice so much. She lends a sweet, sad tenderness that evokes Jerry, but in a woman's point of view and voice OMG.

Agree, way too much talking at shows these days. Wish I could go to shows where they subdue folks that chat during a performance, it is disrespectful.

I saw her perform this at Mud Island in Memphis and it really touched my soul. I'd never heard this song until he covered it but since then I've listened to her version as well as the Grateful Dead's and love the sad, mysterious lyrics. What was their secret? Why did she die so young? Why did he leave her for ten years?

It's about a man who left his love and went to sea for 10 years. When he came home his love had died. He's in a mausoleum and he is looking at her face thru the "one pane of glass in the window" , before embalming they put windows in the coffins so they could view the dead. Her body has faded as the roses and ribbons she was buried in, time has passed and no relatives or others visit her body anymore but he stays and can't leave his long dead lost love. One of the most beautiful songs by the Grateful Dead. The ultimate version though is Jerry singing it at Radio City
