See damp Sam at the start of this job in Hoyland. This Chimney breast has Sulphate contamination and black mould. The kitchen was smelling musty and of mushrooms, have a quick look.

You need a salt neutraliser and a re-plastering system incorporating a salt inhibitor

Interesting video. Would this be classed as penetrating damp or condensation?

ijl66 hi, neither it’s Sulphate Contamination but ventilation is a contributing factor, the types of damp affecting properties are, Sulphate Salt Contamination, rising damp, penetrating damp, lateral Dampness, bridging, humidity condensation and leaking water goods. They can all overlap each other and all be present as part of the issues. It’s not straight forward and that’s why our industry gets a bad press because of mid diagnosis.
