Damp sam did a damp & timber report on this property and sulphate salts were detected on the chimney breast in the attic. A system was recommended but once work started this had to be changed, this is the first of 4 short videos.

Hi there I have a back bedroom first floor with chimney breast that had the salts coming through. Ive taken off the plaster and taken it back to the masonry .I have treated it with salt inhibitor and am now confused as to what to do next .It definitely looks dryer and no salts coming throgh but not much to look at. I had originally turned it into a built in wardrobe. Now the wardrobe is in bits around the house! I have had a conversation with a decorator who has just told me to either box it in or use gloss paint and paint it. Please help me !!

Hi, I have 4 chimney breasts and I want to 'cap off' them all. Will they require air bricks? and can I out them on the outside of the house? as I am having MVHR system installed and the house needs to be airtight. Thanks in advance
@dampsam5 жыл бұрын
Chris Thompson yes they need venting lower down and there is no reason why they can’t be done from outside if you can get access.

@@dampsam I have same problem in a 1930 detached house th chimney stacks are on the outside and they've been capped off with no vents, or air bricks if I put air bricks in the bottom near the dpc course and one air brick in the top on the chimney stack, do you think this will drive the moisture out? Many thanks Dillon

Had chimney breast removed and want to start dot & dabbing the wall. Should I seal the brickwork with something before starting?
@dampsam4 жыл бұрын
Alexander Pearson it needs some type of barrier system if your using dry wall

Simon Cooper HNC CSRT CSSW would moisture resistant plasterboard be suitable?
@dampsam4 жыл бұрын
Alex Pearson there is no reason why you can’t use them but they are not the type of barrier Iv been on about and they are more expensive than normal plasterboard.
