I’m surprised at all the non-supportive comments, “Less is more”, “overdone”, “ruined the original”. His interpretation is not trying to “be better” than the original. It’s a completely different take to the original that it becomes his own. Stop comparing it to the original. It’s not sacrilege to modify Sultans of Swing. Lol. I understand the less is more philosophy. I happen to think the solo at the end of Comfortably Numb is one of the best solos ever and it’s not overly technical. But it is exactly the technicality and runs performed here that I really like, it’s well done for what it is. I think it’s genius. Let’s be honest, some of the comments are by guitar players who are envious of this guy because they can never play like this guy.

Absolutely correct. However it feels hard for me to take buskers seriously who pander to the audience with their setlists, and Sultans is definetly a certified boomer classic.

This is not Sultans of swing but an amazing idea of exploration of ideas over the same progression and song structure. So you are right, there’s no point in comparing.

The improvisation by Miguel, the additions, and take-offs while returning to the root of the piece are indicative of the talent of this young man. He takes us on a virtual tour of Sultans with more chord progressions than the ear can imagine, and returns to the original seamlessly; a sign of a very accomplished musician.

I cannot begin to explain my admiration for Miguel Montalban. This man, not only has extraordinary guitar techniques, but is able to phrase them into tearing and heart-ripping melodic arrangements. It's a very personal opinion, but his musical sense resonates through me and through I believe a lot of people. His music profoundly touches me where a very few things do. Miguel Montalban, I don't where you are at the moment or how you are doing, but I wish you all the best.

The most awesome cover of Sultans of Swing I've ever seen on the internet. No, it's not just a 'cover', it's underestimate. It's his own 'interpretation' of the piece. I have to say so because all the other covers (of the piece) are just mere 'covers' , that is, mere 'copies', but this guy plays it in his way . Amazing ! He made the piece much more colorful by giving it a Latin touch in some parts. My jaw dropped all through the listening. My Goodness ! Why does he play on a street? Why doesn't he make his album? Why doesn't he do real concerts?

It's called an interpretation. It's the musician's interpretation of the song. He is not trying to play sultans note for note. By far the greatest guitarist I have seen on youtube. Usually shredders have little sense of musicality. This guy can shred with the best of them and with artistry to match. Who is better electric guitar player (limit to rock/hard rock genre)? Paul Gilbert or this guy?

We live in an incredible time. No more is talent locked away behind some record label and a room full of executives who determines who gets seen or not. Real talent can be seen any time, any where.

I've seen SO many guitar solo videos, and this one is possibly my favorite of all time. Not sure how it doesn't have much more love. The variety of licks and the phrasing (most of the time) seems absolutely incredible. Pretty sweet tone too, with a little bit of variety as well.

He's got great technique, but he hasn't shown he's a great guitar player in this video. Playing guitar in a band is about doing enough, but not too much.
@paullockwood72194 жыл бұрын
@@tsmay4598 point taken, if a little over critical. I was simply passing on a compliment on to someone who's effectively busking, and possibly going through hard times. Nothing wrong with that in these crazy days we are in.

Brilliant rendition. Incredible touch and skill. Old guys stand crying while a busker in his twenties plays a rendition of “Sultans of Swing” on an electric guitar at Oxford Circus Tube entrance better than Knopfler, fluent and fast, brilliant performance caught mid-commute as most walk by and some toss coins into the guitar case. No swagger to the kid, just skill, touch, and tone in a beautiful display of virtuosity. Amazing stuff.

The old saying "less is more" comes to mind. This guy clearly knows the scales but better than Mark? Nowhere near comparable. I can't even say that was Sultans as he only used it as a backing track and played a couple of the couple of chords. Not hating on the guy I'm just saying playing fast scales doesn't make him a musician

Guitars popular enough that id put it at more like 5k-20k(theres always tons of not popular but extreme guys), clearly this guys top level skilled, but id say about 99.8% of any given skill never reach the top, the very frontier of skill, usually because it takes 6+ years of 4+hours a day training combined with science, (anytime your learning high level shit you gotta take a fucking scalpel to every aspect the skill has even to minute details and fully flesh them out), combined with someone smart enough, to even get to forefront. Just because the bar is always so high by people who have done all that before, for generations.

Or sick and on their way to hospital .. Such a guitar performance maybe just happens one time in their lifes... Like Gary Moore, Joe Satriani and Mark Knoephler.. Miguel you are so humble and a genius at playing guitar🌟☀️👍👏🙏
