Well, most of the reefs in Sumatra are pretty sharp and a wave has to be pretty shallow in order to barrel like that. But it's far from the most dangerous wave out there. It's pretty much perfect. You just make the drop, set your line, and get kegged off your arse.

Have any of you ever been to a perfect, but heavy/shallow reef that no one has ever surfed before?? It might not be a bad idea to let the first set go so you can watch it, especially you're there all alone with only a handful of your mates, and you've got all the time in the world to surf it. Trust me; these guys got plenty of kegs that day.

I'm an owner/partner and booking manager for Sumatran Surfariis, the company you took you on this trip, on the boat Southern Cross. I know Carlos, Uncle Pete, and the entire crew that travels with us every February. Scuzz, my partner and your guide for this trip, gave me this footage along with Carlos himself. Umm, I don't know. But almost ALL of them are pretty sharp, so it's best to try to avoid hitting the bottom.

That's NOT correct, though I know where you are talking about. This wave IS in the Mentawais. I just got back from a trip last night, and surfed it really good, bigger than this vid. Tide doesn't really matter that much. We also found an equally impressive right about a 5-minute speedboat right from this left. I will post a vid from that in the next week or so.
