MACHINE // LYRICS
Take another look at yourself
Tell me what do you see, what do you see?
Your soul's reflection
Is it what it used to be?
So take another look at yourself
Tell me what do you see?
Answers revolve around our heads
Like figures of our imagination
Measures are taken to purge
Pleasure and take life in as pain
This is bigger than you and me
Cause this is bigger than you and me
Alarms as you wake from this dream
Human fellowship is sacred
Cause this is bigger than you and me
Take another look at yourself
Tell me what do you see, what do you see?
Your soul's reflection
Is it what it used to be?
So take another look at yourself
And tell me what do you see?
As we move along waiting here
Our days repeat and increase
Your default setting
Runs your life secretly
Which direction are you heading?
Escape the pressure
This is bigger than you and me
Alarms as you wake from this dream
Human fellowship is sacred
Cause this is bigger than you and me
Alarms as you wake from this dream
Human fellowship is sacred
Cause this is bigger than you and me
Separate yourself from the machine
Embrace your own identity
Separate yourself from the machine
Embrace your own identity
Escape the pressure
Take another look at yourself
Tell me what do you see, what do you see?
Your soul's reflection
Is it what it used to be?
So take another look at yourself
Tell me what do you see?
Your soul's reflection
Is it what it used to be?
Your soul's reflection
Is it what it used to be?
What do you see?

The beginning of my book 2 starts off with this song inside of the mosh pit at one of their shows. Much like this. I’d love to get some people together to film the scene in the future. It’s definitely something I’m really looking forward to doing in the future. I fucking love Born of Osiris. Easily my favorite band of all time. They’re as poetic with their lyrics, as they create such amazing assbeatastan music. I really need to go to a show. Damn I love this.

Yeah, I think Lee knew that he needed to bring some sweeping licks into TWDA in the absence of Jason since people now expected more shredage from BOO. Too bad he struggled to play the part live and now just mimes as it plays on the backing track. This pattern here is a common minor arpeggio shape with a tapped extension that just fits the criteria for a looping lead line of this style without being too technical and can be more comfortably played (for those who aren't forgoing practice *ahem* *Lee*) in 32nd notes at this tempo than something Jason would have written haha. It has been done before many times. In My Will Be Done, the same arpeggio pattern descends an interval after a bar and ascends back to the root after the following bar, continuing in this loop. It also introduces a third above harmony after two bars just like the part in this song. In this part however, Lee stays in the same root position (C minor I think) for the arpeggio each time and descends diatonically through the harmonic minor scale at the end of each repeated bar. Different enough to not be a ripoff of My Will Be Done, but recognizable enough for people to go "OMG sweeping, this is a metal band."

I'm a guy who likes really proggy and technical stuff but sometimes I feel simple music like this is quite nice. Sure, the guitar is very chuggy all the time but some licks and solos are actually good. And I especially like the atmosphere and the lyrics on this album and their previous one, The Discovery. But BoO is pretty much the only deathcore band I listen to.

Yeah, people think that sweeping lick is easy just because it's a standard minor arpeggio shape and it isn't lightening fast. But the fact that it loops and requires precise, steady timing makes it super difficult and since it's the featured part in that section of the song, it's clear when it's not in time. So yeah, haha a lot of pressure and concentration involved in that one live I'm sure

I'm not going to bitch about the guitar being too high, but is necessary that the bass is THAT high? (Higher than the guitar), because the bassist isn't playing the sweeps (at least not on this live show) and the rest of the song is basically breakdowns. Just my thoughts about it, don't hate on me.
