Tbh you can, its that Hoyo put bits of stories in artifacts, ascension materials, weapons and item drops. Flower of Paradise Lost speaks of this. Or hopefully the anime will give more insight.

I jumped the gun and did sightseeing in Sumeru to activate teleporters and Statues of the Seven even though I am still in the early game. I hate having complete terra incognita in my game map (probably something going back to early versions of Civilization). @08:05 kicked in just as The Dune of Elusion came into view. Like getting your first hit of Indiana Jones all over again.
